What are the door box things you did not use?

I think these are what he’s talking about. Read a different thread about hinge install and recall someone else mentioning it was the same part as the ones already installed.

Going to install Sunday. How long did it take you they say in the videos I watched it takes about a hour? Did you follow the ford instruction with pulling the door off completely or like some of the videos on here leaving it partially connected and just support it, then re-bolt it up With the new hinges .What are the door box things you did not use?

This is my plan when I install the kit. I am plan to replace one hinge at a time without taking off the door.

I plan to prop the door. Remove hinge, replace hinge (with new hinge). Repeat process with second hinge.

Does anyone know if there is an problem/issue with going this route?

Only that if your method of prop up fails mid swap youre gonna twist the shit out of the one hinge and maybe do some body damage to the mount location. Just thinking that would probably happen to me and wish I followed instructions. If you have a solid way to hold it in place it would likely help to keep it lined up though. Post whatever you do. I’ll get mine on Monday and it will sit in the garage a while…

I got mine this morning….for those asking about the plate, it is 16 gauge aluminum. Well I assume aluminum cause it is not magnetic. The actual plate is very thin but the hinges are huge.

Especially with the spare removed, I'd think one hinge would easily support the rear door.

The spare would be off for any install of the hinges

I was thinking of using a folding table and some boards/foam to help support it. Might not be a bad idea for both? The it’s also not on a pivot point like the strap if it got bumped wrong.

I just did it today and took about 30 minutes . I used blue tape to outline the hinge on the outside and inside part of the hinge and ran a marker around it. Swapped one hinge out at a time. Had to adjust both hinges once and it was perfect alignment and function. I did have a helper lift up or down while I tightened the bolts. Simple install. Hardest part of the job was getting the plastic screw off of the rubber bumper to remove it.

Thanks. I figured it out today and did not use them as I realized they were the same and the originals were the body color and the new ones unfinished.

I spent about 5 hours total . I used the instructions involving removing the tailgate all the way, but I really took my time. I didn't want to risk messing up any wiring by leaving them connected. didn't use the metal boxes that install in the quarter panel that the inside door hinges are bolted to . The stock ones matched up with the new hinges, they just don't appear to be as heavy duty. There weren't any instructions to install the included boxes , so I didn't use them . Most of my time was re-aliening the tailgate. It will really make it easier if you have help ,as I did it on my own.

Can you confirm is the "exoskeleton frame" made of steel or aluminum? And is it covered with some kind of molded plastic or just painted?

I think it is sheet metal with a plastic cover I didn't put a magnet on it , but it seemed metal .

That’s pretty thin. Less than 1/16” thick. Mine hasn’t arrived yet, but this seems disappointing.

Do you think coupling with a heavier built exoskeleton like the Hammer Bilt one designed for the Raptor hinges would be better?

Seems the one hinge at a time method ( with tailgate support) is the way to go.

Several interesting approaches. My thoughts was to use my floor jack and some scrap lumber like a 4x4 or 2x4 for blocking.

Did a similar thing to lift my front bumper & winch in place.
