Going to install Sunday. How long did it take you they say in the videos I watched it takes about a hour? Did you follow the ford instruction with pulling the door off completely or like some of the videos on here leaving it partially connected and just support it, then re-bolt it up With the new hinges .What are the door box things you did not use?
Can you confirm is the "exoskeleton frame" made of steel or aluminum? And is it covered with some kind of molded plastic or just painted?
I think these are what he’s talking about. Read a different thread about hinge install and recall someone else mentioning it was the same part as the ones already installed.
This is my plan when I install the kit. I am plan to replace one hinge at a time without taking off the door.
Only that if your method of prop up fails mid swap youre gonna twist the shit out of the one hinge and maybe do some body damage to the mount location. Just thinking that would probably happen to me and wish I followed instructions. If you have a solid way to hold it in place it would likely help to keep it lined up though. Post whatever you do. I’ll get mine on Monday and it will sit in the garage a while…
Especially with the spare removed, I'd think one hinge would easily support the rear door.
The spare would be off for any install of the hinges
I was thinking of using a folding table and some boards/foam to help support it. Might not be a bad idea for both? The it’s also not on a pivot point like the strap if it got bumped wrong.
