This evening my wife saw something in the driveway on the side I normally park on and when I looked at it, it appears to potentially be a part of my Bronco but no idea where it goes... assuming part of the shocks as the part says Bilstein on it but taking a look (in the dark, in the rain) underneath can't seem to figure out where it belongs. Anyone have any idea? I didn't notice any difference in the ride but I assume this is something of importance!

Thanks!

It is one of your shock reservoirs. Common issue with the OEM Bilsteins.

Being a MY'22, you may have some luck getting it replaced under warranty. Some have had luck whereas others are told to pound sand. Technically, Ford doesn't warranty against rust.

As mentioned.. you've now joined the club of those that lost one of their rear shock reservoirs due to it rusting off
And one that Ford will refuse to cover under warranty

50/50 shitty dealership tossup based on the small population segment on B6G. Caught somewhere between "rust isn't a warranty item" and "failing/defective part" it seems. No skin in that game here though

Thanks all! Will try to have it dealt with under warranty else I'll go to a shop and use it as an excuse to upgrade... I certainly wouldn't want to buy the same shocks and have this happen again in 2 or so years!

I can't understand why Ford or Bilstein would accept the liability of a shock reservoir falling off and potentially launching through someone's windshield killing them. Should be a total recall.

They weigh the cost of the recall against the possible cost of loss of life. It's cheaper if people die

Doing the right thing has nothing to do with it

Just remember to put a hose clamp around the new one and others if you get it replaced. Not only will it aid in keeping less stress on the weld, it will protect Bronco windshields should another one fall off on the road.
