I have an awning on my motorhome and seldom use it. As can be seen in three out of four pics in this thread, there is little chance it will be oriented properly for shade . And a high chance the wind will reek havoc with it.

OVS Nomadic 270LTE from Amazon. Not saying it's the best but suits my needs, budget, and weight. One camping trip in the rain made me get one, $450 and 35lbs. Option for driver or passenger side. Not easy to install, I purchased more mounting brackets for stability. Mounted it to the frame of my FSR Aspen Lite RTT. Easy to deploy and put away by myself. I installed some battery powered strip led's underneath for lighting. Deploying the legs aren't necessary as it stays up by itself. I need to figure out a better way to put it on/off before the spring.

Enough to not be in the way, but provide some rain or sun protection when I want it.

It's not tied to one vehicle.

When the wind wads it up into a spitball, I'll throw it away and get another.

It doesn't scream 'overlanding' dork everywhere I go.

Digging the simplicity of that, do you have a photo of it closed? i want to gauge how high the awning sticks up above the trailrax, i have chase lights on that last load bar that i don't want to cover up.

Here is a side and rear angle shot. I used the included L shaped mounting brackets with the short side of the L facing down, to get it as low as possible.

Mine is far and away the best for my needs. 9x6 Mesh tarp from HF, two cheap poles, 4 cheap stakes, 4 DYI guylines, two marine suction cups. Collapses to the size of a 2L bottle. Let's wind pass through. Zero impact to gas mileage . Sets up and tears down in a jiffy. Under $50 all in.

I picked up a second-hand free spirit recreation 270.. While "Best" is hard to quantify, I was a bit picky. I wanted something free-standing and not needing to use support poles in anything but serious wind, and a wall kit.. I picked the awning and wall kit up for $500
