Outside of the V10 (which was spared from having them), are there any gas Ford V engines that are safe? I know the 3.5 is notorious. I assume the 7.3/6.8 V8s are, being cam in block.
Yeah I haven’t personally seen any issues with the 6.8/7.3 phasers themselves, but they do have other valvetrain issues.

As far as OHC, I can’t think of any that didn’t have phaser problems.
Some are obviously far less common. Like I don’t think I’ve ever done phasers on a 6.2 that I can remember, but I think they did have the issue sometimes.

So pretty much all modern Ford V's have issues, whether cam phases, or something else, like the 7.3l cam/ lifter issues?

Chevy's AFM is garbage. I personally had a new Camaro SS catch on fire after it the system malfunctioned.

Dodge has the Hemi tick. Cam destroys itself.

So all of the big 3 have V issues?
Yeah I think everyone has some sort of issue. If I were building, maybe and LS if you can find one.

The 6.4l Hemi is good, but has fragile pistons from the factory.

Well, I feel pretty good. I own a 6.8, a 6.2 and two 2.3s. Oh, and a '05 4.0 V-6 Mustang, all good so far...

1 time bomb out of 5 isn't too bad.
I've had 4- 4.0s over the years and been very happy with them. And, ignorance being bliss and all, kinda hoped for a similar NA V-6 when the Bronco came out. Didn't know (and still don't really) what a cam phaser is, sometimes ignorance is just ignorance.

You've been lucky, I've had the same number and all got death rattle before 200k. One at just 90k. It took me too long to learn my lesson, but I won't ever touch one again.

I usually get bored with them around 100K, Mustang has 103K...

Well, I’m not a fan of the cam phaser issue. ‘22 got the rattle @ 1,800 miles. Just dropped off the car again- literally today - to have the cam phasers replaced again. The Bronco has 17k miles on it. That extended warranty is probably a must have. The service tech said it’s a $3-4k job as the motor has to get pulled….
