So I bought my bronco a month ago. I have a BD 4 Door. I went under to look at rear shock skids. I'm very new to broncos and I realized I didn't have an engine skid. Which I thought I did with the black diamond.

Should I replace front bash plate now or wait until I need it?

What brand skids should I go with asfir or jcr?

I thought the BD had the same plates as the BL as well... Sure it's not the trans plate? There's no trans plate in any of them.

I have StinkyFab (@StinkBug), which I think offers a full 4dr skid plate set. I think they're pretty good, certainly hefty.

I see JCR and Asfir around the forums; I think people tend to like them both. There's a lot of there, though: NVM, Lod, Goat Fab, Talons Garage, RCI. Others I just can't recall.

Post a photo of what you have and we will help you figure out what you need. If your going to wheel certain brands are far superior to others.
Not to derail but this is a decent spot to ask: after obliterating the stock plastic front skid and nearly ripping my gas tank off I've been looking for takeoff skids for a while but not having much luck. If I have to buy new - what brands should I be looking at? Not sure I will buy for this season or not, but want to keep my eyes open.

Talon was on my short list, but my list quickly petered out after that.

Since the OEM gas tank skid seems pretty highly regarded, and everyone else's gas tank skid alone sell for about the same cost of the OEM complete kit does (on sale $625 delivered to some dealerships), I went that route. Never seen an OEM gas tank skid for sale within 200 miles of me, in the last 2 years.

@Brian_B and @MNBigfoot factory fuel tank skid is the only proven fuel tank skid. The factory skids are worth every penny and shouldn't be off loaded. Really your left only buying a transmission skid... Talon is the only option with ribs which is a key part separating them from the competition. I really wish I could team up and make a few more skid plate options.

Someone should bug Talon garage about the license plate frame skid for the factory bumper. I know he made a few a while ago.

My ford factory fuel tank skid and transfer case skid are still going strong so I concur. My talons transmission skid has taken a heavy beating as well and while it has gotten deformed. It’s still working and can be removed and re installed fine. My Icon diff skid has shifted and causes some squeaking as the frame moves from driving. Happened before and I just removed it, ground down some areas and reinstalled and bingo. All good. Honestly I’m happy with all I have and my belly is perfectly flush and flat as everything I’ve installed mates up well with very minor grinding.

But yea, long live factory fuel tank skid.

Talon is a great company with honest business practices and they use their stuff.

Everything below in the pic has 3 Rubicon trips on it and countless other trails.

Asfir is aluminum and JCR has an option for steel or aluminum. Pros and cons to each material. I would make the decision based on the extent of off-roading you plan on doing. As mentioned by others there’s plenty of options out there so hope the 6g community can help you decide.

Also some skids out there may or may not work with your bronco depending on if you have crossmembers so just read the descriptions carefully… and someone correct me if I’m wrong but some of the skids is not compatible with the sway bar disconnect (but I think that only applies to first editions and badlands).

Yup, for sway bar disconnect or 2.3 vs 2.7 you’ll have to make sure your transmission skid matches your application. They should all clearly say in the description and talons has a drop down I believe on their site for your application.

I went with the JCR at the time, as there wasn't much out there yet in Aluminum yet. My intentions are not for rock crawling, but just protection for the "surprise" in forest trails and moderate type trails and I wanted lighter weight. So far, it's been good. I did get that "surprise" last year on a forest trail that had a muddy section. Just kept a bit of momentum through it, 4 or 5 mph, and it was a solid hit that jounced the vehicle up a bit. Some rock under that muddy water was solid. Bent up the trans skid a bit till it contacted the trans cross member support, but nothing broken. But that was my intentions when purchasing, to save my under components from that destruction moment. About 80% sure that rock would have hit the edge of the trans pan if skid wasn't there. But it's back to normal now, mostly straight again. Sledgehammer to the rescue. :)
