help/suggestions with fog lights

Need a little help with fog lights, lights on a bumper bar and pillar lights selection. I know there are a ton of threads on this topic but my question is a little more specific. Were the fog lights, etc you purchased based on where you drive? For those of you that do off-roading/trail driving was your selection based on that? Or was your selection simply based on a setup that you liked? I’ve seen threads in this forum where people have listed their light combination. One thread I came across listed DD ss3 pro driving, ss2 pro fog white and ss2 pro fog amber. Another thread I came across ssc3 combo, ssc3 sae fog (yellow) and ssc2 sae fog (white) was listed. Wondering why those were the lights that were selected. I am not questioning why they selected what they did, just questioning what factors made them select the lights that they did. I basically drive on both lit and unlit roads under normal driving conditions, in heavy rain and snow and in both light and heavy fog. Does anyone have any suggestions for each type of light? Are bumper bar lights and pillar lights a waste of money for what I’m using them for? This is the first vehicle that I have ever owned that I am adding accessories to. I am really glad that I bought a Bronco and I don’t mind spending money on lighting, etc. to make it look good. I am looking for something that I can install myself. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Well let's start with what kind of bumper do you have? Plastic, Capable or Modular. That will dictate what type of fog kit you can install.

After that we can talk about various options.

Yellow is good for bad weather. White for good weather/normal driving.
Fog patterns is what you want for fog use, normal driving.
A combo light is good for "off-road" use or to light things up (ya know for times you might use a high beam alone on the road).

Spots go DOWN range, only good if you need to see DOWN range (and those are better for locations above your grill, like your a-pillars or the roof).

For down low (fog opening), fog patterns/driving/flood (or a combo)
Above the grill, combo or spot
Above the windshield, combo or spot.

I'll just say that amber does NOT have to have lower output at all. And hunters know that it brings far more clarity in low light conditions especially. Plus, most folks won't flash you for having fogs on if they're a tad high...

I have OEM Rigid fogs in the bumper (2 sets) One pair I left clear, the other I added a yellow lens. On the a-pillar I mounted a set of KC Hilites Flex Era 4 combo beam lights. The nice thing about them is I also added the clear and amber lens covers so I can adjust as the conditions dictate.

@MandRautomotive - they have solutions for Standard, Modular and Capable bumpers. They also have a yellow & yellow/white light option. It directs all the light in the front of the truck.

the yellow/white light is a nice option. kinda like the yellow "accent"

You need a bracket on a modular bumper to get the lights to fit properly.

You could do 1 set of Baja Designs lights you'd need the following:

If you plan to just buy a fog light switch for your truck and program the circuit in, you could go with this pigtail:

You'll want the square bezel ones to make them fit/look properly (round does not look right in my opinion as it's a rectangle style hole)

Then you'd get a pair of fogs without having to buy a complete triple fog light kit. We've had a few people do that. Just buying our bracket and 1 pair of lights.

You can get brackets on eBay for only $30. I bought a pair, they're fine. 3mm thick steel (just under 1/8"). I mounted a pair of 3" DD fogs and a pair of 3" driving lights from SBL. The DD's are nicely centered in the mod bumper opening, the SBL's required a 3/8" spacer under the bracket. I wired them directly to the aux switches. I didn't even think to look for factory fog wiring, I thought I read the Base/mod didn't have them?

Did you look at @Diode Dynamics ? They've got kits and much lower priced from what I've seen than BD.

I have a Baja Designs Array in the Mod bumper and Baja A pillar lights as well. My lights are definitely for the type of off-roading I do, or where I do it is more accurate. Like you, I’m on the Eastern part of the country and down south, so my trails are tight and wooded, with a lot of switchbacks in mountain regions of the lower Appalachian system.

Installed them all myself and connected to my included up fitter switches, which did make it more straightforward.

My A pillars are Squadron Sport, clear, driving combo
Fogs are sets of Squadron Sport SAE Amber,
S2, clear, spot
S2, clear driving combo

Went with the SAE Amber for street legal in fog or snow for better visibility and it makes a serious difference. If things really get bad, I turn on the fog driving combo. The other lights are only for use on trail in the dark. A pillars get the least use, but when I need them, they really throw a ton of light down trail and around corners.
