I see nearly all hitches. including OEM, are not directly mounted to the frame rails. They are mounted to a smaller crossmember. Are there any aftermarket hitches that do attach to the primary frame rails?

I'm not planning on exceeding 3500 lbs at all. I do want a more robust hitch receiver than my OEM hitch though, preferably frame mounted..

Y'know, I want a rear winch. I know they use a brace, but I wonder if those are frame mounted? 🤔

while not exactly what you want, i believe the raptor version of the hitch adds some extensions for rigidity, between that and a rear sway bar or something it raises the towing rating a bit. i haven't see anything that raises you a whole class tho if thats what you're after. i would think there is stuff in the way of directly mounting.

I got a Curt aftermarket hitch, it suits me fine, I may occasionally tow a small trailer but mainly use it for bikes and very small stuff like that. I mean the tow capacity is small anyways. It's mounting position is pretty robust. I did use it for a recovery a couple times and it's not bent or anything at all. Having said all that, it's not as solid as a full size receiver hitch for sure.

Second this, plus it’s simple to install.

Ford's lawyers wouldn't let them sell a vehicle with a subpar hitch mounting setup.. I feel like your worry is unwarranted.

Realistically.. the factory mounting setup is probably capable of handling at least a thousand pounds more than advertised... for liability reasons. Much like ladders are required to support 3 or 4x the weight they're rated at.

How can that one be rated for 675 lbs tongue weight when the OEM receiver is only 350 lbs tongue weight?

Considering its extended nearly a foot I'm betting its a typo.. should probably read "67.5 lbs tounge weight" 😋

I can't find any aftermarket hitches that do attach to the primary frame rails so....

Are there any aftermarket rear bumpers that have an integrated 2" receiver?
