I don't like how long the Mishimoto lug nuts are. From the images, it looks like they will stick out much further than the stock lug nuts.

Yep, they stick out substantially...enough so it would be very easy to lock onto them with a good pair of vise grips. I'm still running them though. Like most locks, it's only going to stop the honest thieves.

Help me understand this offering as I think I'm going in this direction myself, especially given the black will match the Black Sas wheels nicely.

The product listing says "Includes 20 standard lug nuts, 7 locking lug nuts, one non-marring 19mm socket, and one non-marring key" So the install that makes sense is 5 standard lugs and 1 Locking lug on each of the 4 wheels and then 3 locking lugs on the spare I guess.

What makes this Mishimoto lug and key option unique or different from the standard Ford locking lug nuts and key that came with my Wildtrack?

I appreciate you reaching out to ask about the Mishimoto lug set. I have had these on my Bronco now for over a year, and they are excellent quality.
The advantages of this design is that they are very lightweight, very strong and uses a unique locking design on the lug nuts that can not be easily removed as the Ford locking lugs can be. Just google "how to remove a locked wheel lug with no key" and you will get a better understanding of how easy it is.
It is because of these differences, that I went with the Mishimoto lug nuts. Plus they do come in a variety of great colours.

The advanced wheels locks are crap. The coating is easily stripped off exposing the metal underneath. Pics suck but you can kind of see. This happened to two of the locks right away. I see it starting to happen of a couple of others.

Just ran out to pick up some food and a 2 door base with Sas turned in front of me also missing the spare tire. So 3 Broncos, including mine, missing the Sas spare tire in the same neighborhood. Sure looks like somebody was shopping.

Another thing to think about is whoever put in the order for someone to steal a full set of SAS tires is going to need the all to easy to remove SAS flares too.

A thief could still get a few gallons of gas from me if they catch me on the trails, but I empty the can out after my trail ends because I don't want to get rear ended by idiots in the city.

I love the idea of putting it inside the tire, because then you can solve the problem at the source.

Just better use some really good adhesive and stick it on there before balancing. I doubt whatever an airtag weighs would make much of a difference but if you are already going through the trouble might as well do it right.

Hey @Wtb13000 - The Poacher nailed it. Another benefit of the Mishimoto lug nuts is that they are a one-piece design. Ford uses a two-piece design for their lug nuts and they have been known to collect water over time and swell, making them a major pain to remove (Lug Nuts Retaining Water? has some good info).

Police are too busy hassling citizens and writing tickets (revenue). Primary citizen/police contact is police initiated involving traffic stop. So yeah, they are not going to do much about some guy's spare tire (unless they can give you a ticket for it).

I was literally told by the automated police reporting system that because I had no concrete evidence of who stole it, and video was typically not sufficient, they were suspending the case. This was within 24 hours of my tire getting stolen.

Last night, some person decided that they needed the spare tire off my my 4 month old Wildtrak. My Wildtrak did not come with any wheel locks, and I didn't think anything about it.

Now I am needing a new rim, tire, tpms, etc., and some anger management suggestions.

I think having wheel locks as a deterrent is always good. Even if they can be removed without the key, it still slows them down a bit or forces them to make more noise than they need to.

That being said, I lost my wheel lock key and Discount Tire needed it since I was getting new tires (on another vehicle). They asked if I wanted to wait and get a replacement key first or they could force them off (but breaking the wheel lock lugs). I said sure, go ahead. Never realized how easy it was for them by cramming a socket on there by force.
