I have less than 4000 miles on my 2.3L BB. But in reading and seeing the pictures of the air filters here. Most of the pictures show a filter that is a tube. Air passes thru the filter, I get that. But is there a plug in one end of the tube? I only noted one picture that appears to show a "plug". LOL. Dry vs Oil? It's still a paper filter.

I have a 1942 Ford GPW (jeep) and that baby came equipped with a Oil Bath Filter. Now that's a filter...well, at least according to the WW2 military it was very efficient. You just pour some used motor oil into a pan that latches into place below the air filter. I still have the housing but run a dry paper cartridge filter in it. In my attached picture it is that large black can on the passenger side firewall.

Nix that. I don't see a mileage recommendation but it says you can blow it out with air. If i remember right it's 30k miles for the stock filter, probably run this for 40k blowing out every 10k miles.
That’s probably a safe estimate. I wouldn’t have any problem purchasing another one in 40-50,000 miles. I probably do 11,000-12,000 miles a year. So it should give me a good 3-4 years.

just ordered one. why not. I don't particularly like K&N oiled... dirty air with older cars... probably my fault but also it's too much maintenance otherwise.

I just changed out my S&B dry filter with the Donaldson one. It’s a funky fit but I feel better using this filter since it’s what a lot of my big tractors use as an air filter.

If you don’t plan on doing any major water foraging you can gain alittle mpg by removing the splash guard in the box. Saves you the $300-$600 for an aftermarket intake and still maintain your accessibility to change filters or service them without removing the whole box.

If possible, simply drilling a few holes, maybe drilling from the filter side, through the piece there be better than removing it?

Everything helps I'm sure, but you need to be a little careful too. 😉

it was definitely worth the cost. I also noticed I’m getting 1-2 mpg more. This could be complete coincidence. Nothing has changed in my route every morning, same driving style, same gas. It’s been hot as hell here in FL. I was getting around 19.8-20 before

Stupid question, but I'm also in FL, and I'm getting around 17-18. I haven't done anything to the Bronco yet, are there other mods you did prior to the filter change that helped you get up to 22? Seems really high. TIA

What area of Fl are you in? I also have 2.3L, don’t remember if I mentioned that before. I do use 87 octane 95% of the time. I’m just to and from work, so I don’t really need the extra boost in hp. I’m pretty light on the pedal, I have a relatively short 20 min drive in the morning. Stay out of boost, and that will help quite a bit. I didn’t buy it to granny drive it, but that’s just my normal driving style.

Got the filter in today. Snapped right in. I used a regular hand saw to cut out the plastic piece mentioned by others in here. It made very clean straight cuts and took less than 5 minutes. After thinking about it I'll screw a small bracket across to hold the filter from any sideways motion before I go off road again. Probably unnecessary because it is a VERY tight fit. I won't be fording so I don't need splash protection.

I do feel like I'm getting a tad smoother acceleration though. Maybe in my head, maybe not. Fuel mileage increase is TBD, I've only put 70 miles on but I'm at 24.5mpg keeping it at 66mph and below. Not much different than usual.

Pretty much my findings as well, fit was TIGHT but it’s not going anywhere. Also doesn’t feel like it’s going to collapse in my hand like the stock one did.
