I don't think that's going to work on a Bronco. The high beams are controlled via a LIN network.

No, he is tapping into the medium speed CAN, not the LIN network.

I still don't think this would work, but regardless, the Medium speed CAN bus wires he tapped into you can find in a bunch of different places on the vehicle.
Here is a list of modules on the MS-CAN:
RTM, SODL, SODR, DDM, PDM, HVAC and the TRM

The DDM is probably the easiest in this case. Here is a picture of where it is located.

You would need Pins 6 and 7.

Was driving earlier so i was being short. but i've seen a obd tap on a gen 2 raptor that did the same thing, read the canbus and the lin trigger for highbeams. i'm guessing the electronics will have some similiarity between the latest gen f150 and the bronco, and hope this would work.

i mean easiest would be to have a company make a highbeam linbus decoder of sorts that sends out a useable trigger.

Well hopefully you get it to work. I know there have been a few people inquiring about how to have the high beams trigger other lights also. Make send and update after you try it out.

I know this is an older thread, but wanted to gauge some interest on a product I’ve manufactured. I too was quite upset when I saw they put the High beams over LIN, but oddly enough not every other light, which is controlled by straight voltages.

Anyway, I made a circuit that takes the LIN BUS data, specifically the high beams and flash to pass, and switches an automotive style relay for use on any lights hooked to it. Everything is currently working flawlessly with no delay for on or off. It’s on a manufactured PCB, and I’m working on the housing now. It will also be plug and play, and all you’d have to do is pull back the silly carpeted drivers fender, plug the T connector in, and give it 12Volts from either a HERO switch, or a manually installed one. It’s made with automotive grade components, and will be a small form factor.

I’m certain I’ll have to contact board admins for advertising Permission, and will do so once I get a site setup. But again, wanted to gauge some interest first. Thank you all.

Definite interest if it's not too crazy. Theres many products out there that read the can bus. But that definitely adds a layer of complexity that no one needs .

I did a bunch of research on the high beams activating my driving lights and finally gave up that and went to a hot lead off the battery to a relay activated by a switch on my dash. Much simpler very little to go wrong and completely by passes all the computer stuff.

I might be interested depending on cost. What I also like is I could power the relay through one of the stock switches, thus enabling and disabling the extra light as needed

To answer all of the questions;

I’m trying to keep it in the $50 dollar range. The hardest part at the moment is finding the connector for a cheap price as it’s the most expensive component. The connector will make it plug and play, and people enjoy those setups.

Yes, you can hook the circuit to a HERO switch and turn on when needed, that’s how I have mine setup now. This way I shut it off and it goes back to factory lighting. This is good for those states that still test for auxiliary lighting, or you’re in normal traffic and don’t need your Morimotos blinding others.

And you can also just hook your lights to a separate switch, but this module makes it so the fog lights either operate with the high beam/Flash to pass, and if you have the auto high beam feature, they will turn on and off with the factory high beams when the Bronco senses oncoming traffic.

I’ll post more info once I have everything in a case. I’m making it so it’s plug and play, and you can use one of the bolts on the firewall by the battery as a mount.

Have you heard of 3D printing?

You could get the housing and a compatible connector designed and send out those as free files while charging for the PCB, etc.

yes, just ordered a Bambu to give it a try. I’m more of a machining guy, and made a box on the CNC. It’s quite overkill and bulky, but works for the moment. The connector in question is the one for the headlight housing, and would provide the plug and play functionality.
