Definitely not a defect. Ford got very aggressive with the fresh air after lawsuits around CO poisoning in the Explorer. Wife’s new F150 behaves the same. Sucks.

I don't know if this is only on automatic systems but I vastly prefer manual AC. Thank goodness base broncos have manual. That said you can always close off the vents if the ram air is too strong. Make sure your blower is on the lowest setting. That is one thing I'm always fighting on rental cars with automatic HVAC. It has a mind of its own when I want to control it.
Its any vehicle with automatic HVAC I've been in. Just an example I start my rental in the morning. Despite being August it can be cool in the morning. I just want to enjoy the cool air before the heat of the day, but it starts blowing FULL HOT because the temp is below the setting. I push the manual button, it still blows full hot because manual mode is only for blower speed, not temperature. The Bronco manual HVAC controls is perfect, simple rotary knob for blower and temperate, and some push buttons for mode (low vents, high vents, defrost). This vehicles ability to take control of the climate is almost unbearably annoying.
Then why even have the button? It literally never works anymore. Since I posted this the recirculation turns off after 1 minute every single time, without fail. It's not a defect, its operating exactly how it was designed.
In-Vehicle Temperature and Humidity Sensor
The in-vehicle temperature and humidity sensor is an input to the HVAC control module. The in-vehicle temperature and humidity sensor contains a thermistor and a sensing element which separately measures the in-vehicle air temperature humidity. The in-vehicle temperature and humidity sensor has an electric fan within the sensor that draws in-vehicle air across the two sensing elements. The HVAC control module may adjust the air inlet door based on the in- vehicle temperature and humidity sensor information to maintain the desired humidity of the passenger cabin air.
No idea, I didn’t design it. All I know is it will open and close as it sees fit. A lot of people may not like it, but that’s the way it’s supposed to work according to Ford. Then why even have the button? It literally never works anymore. Ehh, the recirc on my Base shuts off automatically also. Sucks because for whatever reason, it makes the Bronco feel cold in winter temps. I swear the entire console gets ice cold, which just sucks the heat right off you.I don't know if this is only on automatic systems but I vastly prefer manual AC. I agree with you on being able to control it, however I never use recirc in the winter (Minnesota, Nebraska) as there is plenty of heat even on the coldest days without going to recirc and there is something to be said for having fresh air come in. I have used recirc around town with the A/C and haven't noticed that it kicked out, but maybe because they were short trips. The Bronco does have a kick ass AC, even with a soft top I seldom use recirc. That said the less automatic the better.Ehh, the recirc on my Base shuts off automatically also. I haven't explored this, but I'm considering trying to locate that damper, set it to recirc and then unplug the actuator ... assuming it works like other HVAC dampers I've dealt with. I'm betting it wil throw a code ....
... or the actuator is a normally open/held closed set up, which will open back up when power is removed.
There's no reason this leaky son-of-a-bitch needs to pipe in outside air all the greaking time.
It’s not, man. My ‘08 M3 stays on recirc but will just cycle in fresh air versus our Broncs just switching recirc off. Recirc isn’t just about ambient vehicle temperature. Sometimes it’s about not having to press a button every 60 seconds when you have to drive past an hours worth of chicken houses to go see your parents. Its any vehicle with automatic HVAC I've been in.

Absolutely.Yes, it's very strange. I've never owned a car that has ever done this from 20-year-old vehicles to brand-new German luxury cars. It makes no sense.
My son finally definitively noticed this out by Glamis this weekend (epic agressvie high speed wheeling by the way). Unfortunately, the stench of beef farms and/or fertilzed fields was pretty well unbearable. It’s not, man. My only workaround thus far is to press the on/off switch and fully shut off the HVAC for the duration of the smelly area. Done this many times on the 5 by all the beef farms.Absolutely.

Anyone try some of the work arounds for other brands with multiple button presses in the prior link?
Hi Bo! I can look into your Bronco's AC concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Bronco's VIN?Anyone else having this issue? When you put the A/C in recirculate, it turns off after 1 minute. Normally wouldn't really be too bothersome, however, with my Bronco when doing 75 mph on the interstate not in recirculate the lowest fan speed blows crazy hard for what I assume is essentially a ram air effect coming in through the cowl.
It sucks when you're sitting in traffic with all these other cars fumes filling up your cabin... I use it for that reason... Or when it's hot and you want to keep the cold air in and the hot air out...You have described what happens exactly. It is designed not to stay in recirculate so there won't be stale air. The ram air effect at highway speeds defeats any low fan setting.
I ask myself why they do this very annoying thing, why not do what vehicles have done forever to meet requirements for a certain amount of fresh air which is to simply have some come in regardless of fan speed and even when in recirculate.
I find this so annoying that I pretty much avoid using recirc. I can't stand having it all set then suddenly change when it goes off. I usually leave recirc off and select output settings and/or point vents so air isn't directly on me.
Can I message you regarding my issue also...?Hi Bo! I can look into your Bronco's AC concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Bronco's VIN?
Anyone found a solution for this? It's annoying right now because we're dealing with wildfire smoke and I can't shut it offHi Bo! I can look into your Bronco's AC concern on my end. It’s a bad design, but functioning as intended. You won’t be able to fix this for any of us.I can look into your Bronco's AC concern on my end.
