INCOMING: Driveshaft Recall (Customer Satisfaction Program 22B27) - replacement needed to avoid cracked boot

I was admiring the undercarriage a few weeks after I got it and had taken it to an OHV park and noticed the defective boot. Dealer checked with ford and replaced the drive shaft under warranty.
Built in November 2020. I thought I damaged it on trail, guess not.

just $40 boots or entire $1000 assemblies? (just guessing at prices)

If they are sitting on that many extra driveshaft assemblies sitting around or are they halting production while they fill the recall? Not like they could ship out a Bronco in 2wd and then add front driveshafts after the fact

I think the designed changed later in '21 to whatever the new style and so they're just going back and updating. List on the shaft is about $450.00, then a handful of yoke bolts and other small hardware. I think labor is .9 with the disco and .8 without so Ford is likely at a cost well under $500.00. The recall is for vehicles produced between September 23, 2020 through September 17, 2021.

It's the shaft going from the transfer case to the front differential, not the CV shafts. The front driveshaft has a CV instead of a typical double cardan or standard U-joint setup. Guess the CV style allows more angle with less bind but I never really researched it much.

This is pretty annoying - so, they’re telling me that it needs to go in for an inspection before they order the parts.

What are the the tell tale signs? Cracked boot and grease?

I’ll inspect it myself - then schedule a Ford inspection locally - then have my dealer of choice (which is 40 min away) perform it if/when necessary.

I’m not having any issues or noises at the moment - but, I’d prefer to nip it at the bud.

Not to get into a pissing contest with your dealer but this isn't an inspect and replace only if defective, it's a mandatory replacement as long as the recall show up on the VIN. If it was an inspection the tech info would have that procedure listed and also specifically say this in the owner notification letter.

SOLD VEHICLES • Owners of affected vehicles will be directed to dealers for repairs. • Immediately contact any of your affected customers whose vehicles are not on your VIN list but are identified in OASIS. Give the customer a copy of the Owner Notification Letter (when available) and schedule a service date. • Correct other affected vehicles identified in OASIS which are brought to your dealership. • Dealers are to prioritize repairs of customer vehicles over repairs of new and used vehicle inventory.

STOCK VEHICLES • Correct all affected units in your new vehicle inventory before delivery. • Use OASIS to identify any affected vehicles in your used vehicle inventory.
