So I spent a few hrs today finishing up the rear end of the Bronco. I re-drilled the rear lower coilover mount 2” higher and 1/2” back. The result is 2” lift and combined with my shaved bumpstops the rear now has over 12“ of wheel travel! And I'll trim 2” off the mount for more ground clearance as well. The ride is better now too!

Everytime I walk out to my Bronco I wonder why the made those mounts hang down so low. I'm curious to see some more pics. Did you have to drop a spacer in there to make up for the dimple in the bracket?

Heres a few pics of the static ride height, compression and extension.
This mod along with the smaller bump stops makes a real difference!

And a couple of the washers I beveled on one side to fit perfectly flat over the factory indent. The bevel also keeps the washer from rotating 😁

Notice how much is available to cut off the bottom! Full 2 inches of ground clearance achieved!

Honestly, that looks more reasonable on the mounting... makes you wonder why it was so low in the first place.

You plan on cutting off and boxing the lower mount for some additional strength as well as acting as it's own skid?

Ford likely wanted to use as long of shocks as possible and not have the frame side protrude into the passenger area. For 2” more ride height AND ground clearance, it's the perfect solution for me! 😁

I've been doing this exercise in my mind for quite some time and I ran into your posting.

Tip of my hat to you and I will do the same. It is a win win win mod!

After cutting will you box the mount out with steel to reinforce the bottom and technically making a welded skid?

I think I'd cut one side off then folder over and then weld the longer side to the shorter side. Plus, built in lightening hole 👍🏻

The factory mounts are so awkward looking to begin with. Even after modifying them they will still look strange. Did you consider removing them and welding on completely new tabs?

I thought about it, but wanted to stay close to the factory geometry .

The wheel travel will be the same. Just the ride height will be higher. Similar to a spacer lift. Bump stops are built into the shock.

Yes, obviously I plan to lift the front more as well. Fab-Tec stuff on order....I'm courious if the rear Shock relocation will cause more axle wrap.?
Other than ground clearance, do you know what advantage this would have over a spacer?
