So after about 800 miles and about a month of running their catch can, here’s what I’ve been able to collect.
It looks to be a little more than a teaspoon which is about 5ml in Canadian dollars.
What’s more surprising is the apparent “gunk” in the bottom. See photos
Can was installed at about 3300 miles and first oil change was at 3800 miles.
Appreciate any feedback.

EDIT: after wiping the can out, I could not see the solids on the paper towel.

The gunk is likely an emulsion consisting of a mixture of condensed water out of the air, oil, dirt and any other substance getting into the crankcase.

Did you clean it before you installed it? "Gunk" should not happen unless it came from the new parts, just typical crankcase vapors.

Can was VERY clean prior to install. I'm just a tad bit surprised to see this after less than 1000 miles. Very worth it in my mind..
Now my OCD will go into overdrive watching this thing.

I haven’t found any instructions on installing besides on a ranger, was it an easy install?

The instructions are on their site but it’s not the easiest to navigate to…..
It’s not terribly difficult. You need to remove the driver side tire and inner fender liner.
Have patience as the little black screw like rivets don’t always come out easily.
Mostly a blind reach for the connections.
Take your time and expect at least one slightly bloody Knuckle 😂

The bigger story is you waited 3800 miles for a 1st oil change on a new engine.

This is needed for the DI engines. Not necessary for the newer 2.7.

I’ll add with my first can empty after about 1200km. Hard to picture but I’d estimate it around 20ml give or take, little more than a tablespoon. All in all glad I installed the catch can, feel much better about this not going through the intake

I did say they are needed for the 2.3...thats NOT false information 👎
If I had the 4 popper, Id buy a can!

No I don't like seeing folks buy some doo-dad that's unnecessary and promoted by manufacturers as being necessary when it's clearly NOT very beneficial for engines with port injection.

To your credit, the 2.3 already comes with an oil separator too

bumping thus and adding my results.

Added my catch can at ~2,800 miles and just pulled to dump and check at 4,064 miles. So ~1,200 miles.

Hands down if you own a 2.3L get a catch can. Thinking double this amount went thru the engine before I put this on wishes I had it sooner.

Can you explain to a noob what a catch can is and where/why it's installed?

Also why are brand new cars leaking oil?
