Hello All:
2021, Badlands, Sas. 2.7, auto. Once in a while I am experiencing some really rough shifting in lower gears. Anyone else experiencing this?
About to take her in for 1000 mile oil change and will notify dealer, but curious if anyone else is having the same issue and/or if there was any resolution.

Thanks.
Bronco on !!!!!

Going to send oil sample to lab.
Yeah man, what ever let's you sleep better at night.

What is that fraction of oil going to tell you?

I could see if you were in a position like I was, where I was qualifying a new oil or benchmarking an oil for a product development task. But for my engine? Pfffft. I'll just take it to the dealer every 5k, pay them to change it and if she goes in 8yrs or 120k miles I'll get a new motor for my deductible.

Describe rough shifting. Is it an abrupt, jerky downshift (or upshift)? Is there any unusual noise? If it is just an abrupt / jerky shift, see if there is a difference between normal mode and sport mode. Sport mode is going to manage the transmission shift clutch engagements very differently than normal or eco mode. My F150 in sport mode has a noticeably jerky and abrupt shift, particularly on decel / downshift, vs a softer shift in normal mode. It is attributable to transmission tuning in different modes.

That’s how the 10 speed works, my current 21 f150 does it 6,000 miles, my 2018 f150 did it. Rough shifts in the lower gear’s accelerating and slowing down. Thats why I ordered the manual transmission in my bronco.

If you're still within the first 1000 miles (break-in period), the TCM is still applying "learned driving behaviors" to the dynamic driving software. I would not panic until 2500-5k miles, if its still doing it.

Thank you. No noise, just abrupt down shift mostly. In normal mode.

That's kind of what I figured. I wanted manual as well, but wanted 2.7 and my other car was shot, so I needed a car asap. So I had to compromise.

I hear you. With some of the engine issues going on, I just want to get a read.

Makes sense. New car, new transmission clutches, etc. It may smooth out over time as it learns. There is also a body of thought which says that a quicker automatic clutch engagement is actually better for longevity than a soft engagement because the primary wear point for automatic trans is the clutches & disks. Smooth, gentle shifts are created by a gentler engagement and slippage of the clutches, potentially causing wear. While quick, abrupt shifts minimize clutch / disk slippage thus minimizing clutch wear. TBH I'm not sure if there are scientific studies around this, but I've heard it said a few times in the past and it makes sense logically.

Sounds like your early for your oil change.
I'll always do a 1000 followed by a 5000 with Blackstone samples. Never hurts to have clean oil.

Going to send oil sample to lab.
Good call IMO.

And Yea, the 10 spds are pretty rough in lower gears. That said the 60 in the Bronco has been by far the best I've driven. Mines actually very smooth. The 80s in the Mustangs and trucks are fucking awful by comparison. Theyre stronger which is great but they feel like someone is bumping you when you come to a stop.

Honest question ... how many motors have those sheets of paper saved?

I can understand an oil temp and oil pressure gauge for piece of mind but never quite understood the oil analysis. Coming from a guy who has worked in industrial hydraulics the last 8 years, with the last 3 solely R&D. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sometimes oil matters, most times it doesn't.
