Yokohama Geo A/T 4 Experience?

Just ran across these via Discount Tire, and I am very intrigued. They are only 60#, and have 18/32 tread to start with.

Anyone have any experience with them, especially in the mid west winters? TIA.

I have them on a small Pickup, I've been happy with them. No snow use though.

Yokohama GeoLandr A/Ts on my SuperDuty, over 70k miles and tread is still good, tires are still in balance although theya re starting to get noisy. Best tires I've had on this truck, particularly in area of balance and overall roundness. Discount Tire will stand behind tem if you aren't happy, I'd give 'em a try and let everyone know.

Yokohama is a quality tire manufacturer... However, these are a "new" tire with limited testing, engineering. Essentially they slapped a new tread pattern on an existing carcass. Several independent testers have compared to other tires for specific traction conditions and found them falling behind.

Compared to the BFG that innovated the all terrain segment in 1976 and has continued to improved generation after generation. Massive knowledge base from racing and real world usage. It's in a completely different league. And one of the few companies who test things like rolling resistance (fuel economy) in the all terrain / off road segment.

I'm always surprised when people buy lesser tires (mostly from the appearance) rather than digging into the company who makes them and tire construction.

True, but as you mention, Yokohama is a very well respected brand of both OEM and aftermarket tires. Yokohama actually started as a joint venture between Yokohama Cable and BF Goodrich back in the early 1900's! The Geolandr line has been in production since 1995 so they're not new to off-road tires either. Tires are very subjective, what one person finds noisy, another may find quiet. It also depends on the vehicle they're mounted on. My Super Duty is probably the worst vehicle to evaluate a tire on, F&R solid axles, leaf springs all around, weights almost 4 tons. Whatever a tire encounters that heavy truck and Flintstones era suspension amplify. I use Discount Tire because they will bend over backward to make you happy with your purchase, if this Bronco owner hates the Yoko's, or the BF Goodrich if he goes that route, they'll make it right.
