I'd be perfectly happy if they implemented the button the way BMW did.I guess I must be a contrarian edgelord because I don't like the auto-start-stop LOL. If they would just make your last selection persistent (leave it on if you left it on, leave it off if you left it off, next time you start the car), we would all get along fine.
It looks like they redid the math and the administrator of the EPA declared yesterday the technology is no longer going to be required by federal regulation (See Article). The flip side to the gas saved is that cars don’t start up quickly. That means it takes a couple of seconds for the engine to spring back to life when you take your foot off the brake when a red light turns green, it, delaying how many vehicles get through the light and increasing overall fuel consumption.if the feature saves only 0.1 MPG - over 15 million cars sold driving ~14,000 miles annualy is 21,000,000,000 gallons of gasoline not consumed each year.
Not sure how this has gone unnoticed...
the funny part is that there's no actual 'regulation' to rescind. It looks like they redid the math and the administrator of the EPA declared yesterday the technology is no longer going to be required by federal regulation (See Article). The flip side to the gas saved is that cars don’t start up quickly. That means it takes a couple of seconds for the engine to spring back to life when you take your foot off the brake when a red light turns green, it, delaying how many vehicles get through the light and increasing overall fuel consumption.
Agreed. Let the user set it and forget it. I don't want to push extra buttons or have my vehicle asking me for OKs whenever I start it.I'd be perfectly happy if they implemented the button the way BMW did.
And of course, never forced the "OK" screen.
Sounds like you will be replacing that button , lolAt first I did not like AS/S. But it became automatic to push the stop AS/S when I started it. If I forgot the engine shutting down at a stop would remind me.
There are some lights that I know I am going to be stopped at for a long time so I hit the AS/S button to engage it and the engine shuts down. When I know it is about time to go I just reach over and hit the AS/S button again to start the engine or just let up on the brakes a little and the engine starts without the vehicle moving forward.
All that may sound like a lot to do but it also has become automatic for me to do and does not bother me at all. I see no reason to complain about that.
Now, if I can just get my Bronco out of the Ford dealer shop so I can drive it, I would be much happier.
Start/stop technology: where your car dies at every red light so companies get a climate participation trophy. EPA approved it, and everyone hates it, so we’re fixing it.Auto stop start isn’t worth the mileage gain. For the tenths of a mile in CAFE fuel gain it adds dreaded weight and cost to every vehicle. At the least each vehicle now carries an extra battery or two adding unacceptable cost ( price a new battery) and they are not light. The system adds vehicle inefficiency when sitting in traffic as it slows start up and is a drain on air conditioning leaving the occupant's uncomfortable. Now no manufacturer will get rid of this as it’s engrained in auto development at all OEMs. Thank heaven for programs that allow it to be disconnected.
