I doubt that I will actually do it. There are mods way higher on my priority list. If I did install an air horn, it would be used with a huge dose of common sense. Not to cause road rage, accidents, or general mischief. My friends would be getting pranked for sure.

You hit the nail on the head. I think the ultra-loud pneumatic systems cause more harm than good. A nice loud 12v horn will do the job properly without getting anyone angry enough to pull out a Hi-point 9mm in traffic (though some people will do that if you don't let them merge from the breakdown lane...)

Exactly why I put in this PIAA after having a train horn shortly on a prior truck. The thing sounds like an old full sized Caddy - plenty loud for other drivers on their phones to hear and “different” sounding enough that maybe it won’t be tuned out as much.

It's not about scaring people - it's about other people having respect for the road and the other drivers around them. If people are too stupid to connect their phones via bluetooth and insist on driving with headphones on (usually both of them) then it is in my own interests to ensure that if and when they create a dangerous situation from careless driving that has a direct impact to my safety - I'd like to be heard over their phone, music - whatever.
People who use train horns have no respect for anyone, they are selfish jerks actually.
Maybe some of you think a loud horn equals train horn but it’s not.
Those actually super fk loud train horns that startle people 300 yards away have no business being used on the roads.
Don’t be that giant jackass using a train horn in traffic.

Mine is not a train horn, I think that is excessive. It's a loud horn that is DOT approved. I am not a fan of train horns and agree that they are more trouble than good. Not sure I'd call them selfish jerks but I get it.

As a motorcycle rider I all too often also see way too many idiots on the road, multi tasking, headphones etc, So for me Its more about the people not paying attention and they weren't gonna hear my regular horn anyway. If someone is asleep at a light, I will generally flip my aux switch to go back to factory horn and give a little tap there, but I recognize that in most things I am not the norm.

I don't think I EVER used a horn in traffic on any of my vehicles. Never had a need. Do I get pissed off (especially at this time of the year that's full of tourists driving like idiots)? I sure do. Honking at another idiot will not make him/her instantly smart, and drive better. It'll aggravate them and make them do even more idiotic things (that's what idiots do by default).

FYI:
Hornblasters.com Blog
"Texas Transportation Code § 547.501. Audible Warning Devices - (a) A motor vehicle shall be equipped with a horn in good working condition that emits a sound audible under normal conditions at a distance of at least 200 feet. (b) A vehicle may not be equipped with and a person may not use on a vehicle a siren, whistle, or bell unless the vehicle is: (1) a commercial vehicle that is equipped with a theft alarm signal device arranged so that the device cannot be used as an ordinary warning signal;  or (2) an authorized emergency vehicle that is equipped with a siren, whistle, or bell that complies with Section 547.702 . (c) A motor vehicle operator shall use a horn to provide audible warning only when necessary to insure safe operation. (d) A warning device, including a horn, may not emit an unreasonably loud or harsh sound or a whistle."

Last line is the cop's judgment call-gotcha...Be wary if you go there.

I will be installing a compressor, and am considering adding an air tank as well. That got me thinking about something else I have always wanted. A legit train horn! Who has one, and how did you install it? Got any good stories about how folks react to it?
I have a better solution - as mentioned air horns are pretty douchy and cause far more problems then they solve.

Google "Cadillac 4 note horn". It's exactly what it sounds like. The big old horns they used put on big old Cadiliacs and other GM vehicles back in the day. Readily available on Ebay and plenty of YouTube videos if you want to hear the sound.
