I have MyQ app on the phone. Good for using the garage opener camera to see if my wife is home . Works from anywhere.
Otherwise I just use the visor button.

I got the Meross and installed it today.

It appears that there’s no remote access unless you have an Apple Home Hub. (Despite the description saying no hub needed)

I can open and close the door as long as my iPhone is on my WiFi, but no remote access.

If anyone knows differently, please enlighten me.
This isn't going to help much but, I use the Meross app and do not have an Apple Home Hub. I just did a test and it will open and close my door from my phone with my wifi turned off.

This is what I bought in '23:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084Z5QZR2?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1

My door is over 22 years old (it was here when we moved in), the kit came with a dongle that I had to connect to the opener.

Liftmaster remote clipped to the visor. I also have one of those keypad remotes on the wall by the door, which I use far more often than I ever thought I would.

That’s exactly what I just bought.
Will yours work if you’re away from the house? Maybe a 1/4 mile away?

I hardwired my opener to one of the auxillary switches using a relay

I did the OEM visor replacement and don't regret the cost at all (surprised it hasn't come down in cost with salvage parts).
Same. It felt less expensive due to my points from buying the vehicle...

I guess on the spectrum from clip on remote on the visor to voice enabled app, this is a "middle school" solution?

I have not tried that, I'll test today and let you know.

Thanks for that. I’m eager to hear what you find.

I heard from Meross and they say that the Meross app will work remotely, but Apple Home will not unless you have a Apple Home Hub

Yes, that was my understanding as well. With Apple you need to be on your home wifi or have a hub. That's why I went with Meros.

Then I discovered (well actually I think my wife did) that you can use Alexa in the Bronco, when I'm coming down my street I just say, "Alexa, open the garage door", she asks for my code and up it goes. I usually only use Meros when I'm in my jeep or walk out and forget something and have to go back into the garage.

I have two Liftmasters with MyQ and they both work perfectly with Carplay as you simply have to add the opener to your IOS Homekit App and the door symbol will appear on Carplay anytime you are within about 1 km from your home. For older openers you just need to buy the MyQ bridge. The range is awesome as I can open or close my garage doors via Carplay almost 1 km from home.
I have read about this, but have not really investigated how to get it done.
I'm not as tech savvy as I used to be lol.

First of all need to have an Apple TV, Homepod, or Homepod Mini in your house to act as a homekit hub and your home wifi signal needs to be strong enough in your garage which isn't usually a problem with attached garages but can be with detached. After that it's a matter of opening up the Homekit app and selecting "add accessory" where it will provide two options to either scan the QR code (will be on the device on the serial number sticker) or hold your phone close to the opener (or bridge if you have an older opener and had to purchase the MyQ bridge) and then wait a half a minute or more until it is connected. Once the opener is added to your homekit, a garage door button will instantly pop up on the Carplay display when you are within range of your house. I actually never use the Homelink buttons as with Carplay I just press the button when I'm turning into my block rather than having to wait until I'm close to the house and holding the Homelink button for a few seconds.

Appreciate the detailed response. Seems easy enough, though I don't have a Homepod.
So I suppose that would be an issue lol. I have thought about getting one....
We have a few old Alexa's, primarily for the kids to use.
Our house is decently "automated" (lights, pool, AC, security, speakers and such), so I have thought about trying to consolidate that all into one place with the Homepod. We have everything Apple anyway.

Yeah I got my entire home set up on Homekit from three cameras, window blinds, ceiling fans, lights, garage doors, door locks, etc. Fully automated. I did it all myself and it’s convenient and so much cheaper compared to the old days of playing $50/month for mediocre home security systems.

My wife was just able to open the garage door from the grocery store using her Meros app.
