First trip to the dealer, and I have been putting it off, didnt want to do it. 2024 Sasquatch.
I year old, battery drains to quickly, shock recall, and the rear window defogger wire broke off.
Rolled in, no appointment. 2 to 3 days to get it looked at. Thats too long, I can make an appointment and bring it back. With an appointment it takes 2 to 3 days to get looked at. ??? What good is an appointment then? decided to leave it. Still there. Been 4 days now for something that would take about 2 hours max. I worked at a very busy Chevy dealer for 40 years and know how it SHOULD work. Things have changed I guess. Not a Ford dealership fan at this point. Love the truck, not the dealer.

Dealers have changed drastically in the last 5yrs much less 40yrs. I work for an independant shop and we stay 2mo out for appts. Any drop offs are a minimum of 1-2 weeks before we MIGHT get it looked at.

You could always try a different dealer. They are not all the same.

My advice would be -
1. Always have an appointment.
2. One issue at a time.

Battery issue may take more than a day as there's most likely some time-consuming tests that will be done.

Shock recall will almost always be at least 2 visits...one for evaluation and another for resolution.

Rear defroster should be a "wait less than an hour" type of repair unless there's a bigger problem.

Good Luck!

Mine was in the shop recently for 9 days (including the weekend days) for a single loose nut on a wastegate actuator (for which the code I threw sent one right to the applicable TSB!!). I guess I see a bit as to why... A fender liner needed to come out to get to the nut 🤣.

My two cents (which they don't make anymore): it boils down to Customer Service/Customer Appreciation.

My wife's ride is a 2023 Lexus IS 350 F-sport. That dealer service center bends over backwards to accommodate their customers with any issue. I call and usually can get in for service within 1-2 days. They offer a loaner for any issue including oil changes. Friggin oil changes! I know, different cars, different manufacturers.

I wish FORD looked at it's customers the same way with all the $$$ cheddar we fork out for these rigs.

Sounds about right. My advice, make a friend at the dealer. I have a dude in sales I have worked with for a number of years. I contact him, he contacts service. It feels like I get better treatment. Do I? Maybe not, but it feels better.

I ask them how long till you can actually look at it and do the work. Usually about 2 weeks out here.

Domestic auto dealer techs are set up differently. If you have a few concerns to take care of, each of those concerns gets assigned to a tech specializing in that concern, whether it's electrical, recalls. Different techs have to look at it. It's a weird way to do it. Was that how it was at Chevy too?

For the rear defroster did the wire just pull off of the glass? If so, this happened to me at the car wash. I bought some conductive glue that is meant for defroster repair. Worked like a charm.

My dealership has wanted to keep my Bronco for weeks waiting for parts. I always say no, let me know when the part comes in. Then I have to call to check in. Then they take it, have it for several days, and finally give it back. Longest has been a week or so. They say it's because the tech has to be available that works on the system that has the issue. (Or, we'll get to it when we get to it.) Twice I've gotten work done I paid for and got it back the same morning. Read this how you will.

I think a lot comes down to dealer and your relationship with the SA. We work with the service manager of the dealer and he treats us well. They are at my house now doing 2 open recalls for my Bronco and to take a look at a squeak I have coming from the rear soft top crossmember. I made the appointment on Tuesday.

Where are you located in NY? Interested to see who your dealer is and where they are because the ones around me typically suck! I'm on Long Island.

There you go. Dealerships are more often then not poor places to have $paid$ (i.e. the dealership is incentivized) work done. They don't want the warranty work, so there service is even worse.

Just being honest here, look at your list. You lose use of your vehicle for days for

1) the cost of a battery (batteries are consumables)
2) a shock band aid that is probably not needed in your climate and will need to be replaced in any case (shocks are consumables)
3) a loose wire a local shop could do in 5 minutes and minimal cost.

Your "free" warranty work turns out to be expensive ;)

Remember, we are not Ford's customers. The dealers are. (Tho' they'll tell you they get treated like scum as well.) So find a dealer who'll treat you well. Small town dealers might be the best.
