Hello all and thanks in advance for reading my post. Leaving tomorrow on a 2000 mile road trip with camping and 4x4 involved. Took the final moments of packing to install my new ADVANCED WHEEL LOCKS to secure my 35” 2024 big bend Sasquatch wheels and tires. Started with the spare , easy does it, torqued to 40 ft/lbs per spec. Then I went to install the back right and noticed my torque wrench tops out around 90 FT LBs. figured it turn it all the way up and give it my best shot. Gave it all my might, The adapter snapped before the torque wrench never clicked to indicate it was torqued to spec. the advanced wheel lock adapter doesn’t fit on the standard bronco crow bar. Now I’m stuck with one wheel lock installed and no way to get it off if I need to change the tire on the trip. I assume it’s on there pretty good and tight but don’t know exact torque specs .
What kind of adapter do I need to get (and where to purchase at a moments notice) in order to use the advanced wheel lock key to fit on either the torque wrench (might be faulty) or onto the standard crow bar (no way to gauge torque specs) any advice is appreciated. I understand I wasn’t using the correct tools to begin with and that’s how I get myself into the situation. Also is it safe to drive to the hardware store etc without knowing the torque specs of the wheel lock ? I assume it’s on there pretty good and tight .

I was using the torque wrench - to extender - to 7/8th socket to advanced wheel lock key , and the extender snapped on me . How do I simplify and strengthen this procedure considering the advanced wheel lock key is slightly too big to go right into the standard crow bar.

I break those things all the damn time

If it’s good and tight (har har) with the tire iron you’ll be ok to get to the hardware store to get a new adapter

Try a deep well 7/8 (19mm may work too) of the correct fitting for your torque wrench (3/8? Socket - although most 100ftlb wrenches I’ve seen are 1/2” - can’t tell from the photo)

That way you don’t need the 4” extender

I’ve found if I crank it with the tire iron by hand I’m usually over 100 ft lbs on the lug nuts and they are a bitch to get off.

Will it fit without the extension?

You can drive to the store, I would.
Buy a breaker bar

Am I reading this right ? I assumed it went up to 90ftlbs because it tops out at 80 with individual adjustments after that

I can put the 7/8 socket right into the wheel lock key, but then the setup is barely long enough to clear the chunky tire and there’s no way to grab the torque wrench

FYI, torque wrenches are less accurate at each end of the spectrum, so if you are shooting for 100 ft lb, you want a torque wrench of 75-150 ft lb

If you have a spec for your wheels that says 90 ft lbs use that. Mine say 100 so that’s where I got that from

The difference between the two isn’t likely to make a huge difference either way but follow what your wheel manufacturer says

If I just stumbled across that in a drawer I would think it’s set to 76.5

I would suggest a

1/2" torque wrench,
1/2" adapter/extender which is beefier than the 3/8
1/2" deep well socket,
1/2" breaker bar.

Make sure everything fits before you leave. Sucks the new wheel lock key don't fit the oem wrench, but now you can buy better tools.
Never tighten or remove nuts with torque wrench. Remove with breaker bar and socket that Fits your lug nuts. Only use torque wrench after you already have the nuts threaded finger tight, last turn or so.
Remove tension on torque wrench when you aren't using it, dial it down to minimum. Helps keep the calibration.

I'm forgetting something, but that will get you moving
