Thought I would talk about one more subject the Alternator.

210amp stock alternator
  • 2.3L EcoBoost (210A rating): Delivers ~130 amps at minimum idle (750 rpm).
  • 2.7L EcoBoost (210A rating): Delivers ~85 amps at minimum idle (580 rpm).
  • @2300-2500 its at max 210 amps
240amp stock alternator
  • Low Idle Output: ~110 amps at minimum idle (~625 RPM).
  • Maximum Output: 250 amps achieved at or above 2,500 RPM.
How do you know if you need to upgrade.
Healthy battery, truck off is 12.6-12.8
Truck on it should read 13.5-14.7 If its under 13.5 your Alternator is bad or not keeping up with amp load at idle.
If it's below 13.5 test the amps, easy way is to use a Klein CL800 or something like it.
At idle clamp it around the positive cable, say it reads 50amps and volts are 13.2 now run the Truck up to say 2000rpms read amps say its 80amps and reading 13.6 you now know your Truck needs 80amps at idle to work properly.

Now options
If you can get the specs on your alternator you may can buy a smaller alternator pulley or have one made if you won't exceed the max RPMs of the alternator
Calculation you need to know
Crank is 4.75 Alternator pulley 2.75 now RPM, 4.75 divided by 2.75 = 1.73 x 900rpms = 1,554 alternator RPMs
Max on alternator is normally 15-18k Max rpms on the Bronco is 6200rpms (rev limiter)

upgrade to the 240amp if 110amps meet your needs

Upgrade to a aftermarket alternator (Only one brand I trust at this level Mechman alternators)
Call them and they can make sure you get what you need.

When upgrading an Alternator good chance you will need bigger wire also.

That dude on youtube that tests all kinds of tools, batteries, ect just did a really good video on batteries. Tested Walmart against O-Reilly batteries, was pretty interesting, and a lot of good info. Ill add the link when I have more time...or if someone finds it
Guessing this one I like this guy.

LOL Check out my book it's free and only like 28 pages also its in audio on google and apple.

Always remember being smart and educated are two different things. I'm an engineer by trade and no one cares about my grammar or spelling when things go south they call me and I just tell them how to fix it and they pay me stupid money so they can call me.
I’m yanking your chain bud.

I open your threads because you have things to say that I’m interested in and I’ve wondered about these XS batteries so thanks for sharing.

Can you explain this a little more? A little smaller, a little bigger, taller, short, cable attaching?
See pic its a little smaller but fits tight once tightened down.

I have been wheeling with it no problems moving around

It seems like a lot of this thread pertains to a dual battery set up and winch considerations. I do have a winch and the Bronco battery meets the recommended specs for it. I never considered needing a dual but I'll look into it.

Outside of that, my second battery is not part of the system. I charge it using a NOCO genius and have an inverted outlet on my Ursa Minor top for a RV style hookup. My 100 ah Slim LiTime has plenty of charge to operate devices including a IceCo fridge for 3-4 days in 90 degree temps. I think for some folks who might have a light duty winch, you might want to consider an aux or secondary battery that is completely separate from the vehicle's electrical system. It can save cost and reduce complexity. Still, interested to see how folks power their adventures whether it's a dual battery or separate aux battery setup.

You’re killing me Small’s.
That college is in tears also after reading this thread.
3 different “tears” of battery 😁

Not that I’m one to talk about grammar or spelling but this is too funny.
I was in tears when I saw the price for a replacement AGM.

Ended up trying a $60 reconditioned lead acid and it's still good over a year later.

Your darn right, I went to pickup 2 new batteries for my older diesel pickup, damn things were $200 each, I felt like I was going to need a loan application at checkout. Haha
And they only seem to last 3 years now 😞,
The only reconditioned battery place Ive seen around here is over a hour away, or I would have tried them by now.
