Hey everyone,

New member here. Up until now, I'd been lurking and learning quite a bit from this forum for a while now. Looking forward to participating in and continuing to learn from and contribute to this community.

I wanted to see who else had any experience with the Turn Offroad tailgate reinforcement hinge. I ordered and installed one recently, and I found that I am unable to open the rear window when the tailgate is open to 90 degrees because the the rubber weather trim on the window hits the tailgate. The body lines and alignment are great, and the tailgate itself opens and closes perfectly. It almost looks like the hinge needs to be pushed out further outward on the passenger side, but it is already almost touching the rear quarter panel, and there is not enough room to adjust it in that direction. I have a 2 door 2024 Big Bend with a hardtop.

Does anyone have any experience with this tailgate reinforcement, know anything about potential issues with the rear window, or have any thoughts on possible adjustments? Is there anyone that can comment on whether this particular tailgate hinge works with their hardtop without any issues?

It's a really high quality and well built product otherwise, and I really want to figure out how to make this work. I've reached out to Turn Offroad through email and phone, but I haven't heard back from them yet, so I'm posting here to see if anyone had any knowledge they could share.

Thanks,
-Albert

I have this exact same issue! Mine was professionally installed by a shop I trust. It’s very irritating. I can’t open my window now at home unless I back into my garage as the tailgate hits the garage door opening! They tried adjusting it but couldn’t. And I’m considering the flush tail lights as I’m concerned about when I have my rotopax on there. Interested to see if anyone has found a fix! But overall, not terrible and I love the reinforcer for many reasons…

Yup that’s the way it is - have to open pretty pretty far to get the glass to clear. Just part of having that reinforced hinge plate unfortunately.

Mine is like that from the factory, can only open glass and clear the rubber if opened a little past 90°

Is there some kind of stop built into the TOR reinforcement preventing it from opening more than 90 degrees?
Because like @Lifeliberty mentioned, even without a reinforcement on at all, mine needs to be opened passed 90 degrees to get the window open.

Nope the swing gate will go all the way back. It does have a mechanical bump stop but I don't think it restricts any more than the hydraulic arm does already.

But if you have anything mounted on the hinge - really gotta watch the tail light. Not really any different than any other carrier, but the rear mounting surface on the TOR one does stick out an extra inch or more from the body of the tailgate.

Thanks everyone for all of the comments. That's too bad - it would be such an incredible product otherwise and would be well worth the full asking price if not for the clearance issue. But the ability to open the rear window with the tailgate at 90 degrees is too much to give up. I was hoping to use their jerry can mount with this hinge, but that just wouldn't work.

It seems like something that should be noted on the website, but their customer service was very helpful in getting me a return shipping label to send it back.
