@kodiakisland thank you for this write up. I appreciate your "pioneering" work.
I am wrestling with getting the TOR carrier and especially the tire mount. You wrote that you are using the OEM tire mount and there is about 1 inch of space between the tire and the carrier.

Has this caused any issues? Did you ever find bumpers that would contact the tire?
Any advice after using this for a good length of time?

Thank you for the response. I will bookmark that source.
If the Turn Off Road set up was not so costly (for me anyway) it would be an easier decision to just get the whole set up. Sure don't want to spend that much if not necessary.

No complaints. I really don't even think about the tailgate, so I guess that's a good thing. Seems to be holding up well. I never got any bumpers for it. I'm sure it would be better to have them, but it hasn't been an issue. I think the support is strong enough that it probably would only be an issue with the heaviest of tires and really hard use.

I took mine to Uwharrie and went over obstacles, slow fast etc. It didn't rattle, bounce, squeak etc. Eventually I'll add the adjustable mount, but it's certainly not necessary. It shuts as easy as stock. The modularity is awesome. I'll add the adjustable mount and rotopax later.

I pulled the bumpers entirely out when I installed my TOR carrier. I just stuck plugs in the mounting holes. The TOR reinforcement is rock solid no matter which carrier you use with it.

This is all very encouraging.
The OEM tire mount just looks and feels to be cheap. First time I took it off the Bronco for a project, I almost threw if away. THANK YOU!!!

Anyone have an issue with the tailgate having a slightly larger gap on the left after install? Door still operates fine but the tailgate could move left the smallest amount.

TOR talks about this in their installation video - you have to re-align the tailgate.

There are 3 different adjustment spots: the easy adjustment on the hinge, and the pull-the-entire-taillight off adjustment on the hinge. To re-center it, you have to go in through the tail light, and it took me hours of trial and error with 2 people.

I recommend just asking a body shop if they can do it for you, or have a lot of beer and spare change to feed the swear jar.

Yeah, some have had to adjust. I was an early install and wrote up a thread with pictures of my adjustment. Not that difficult but does take some time to access the hinges.
