I usually see people quoting those thinking it's net added weight to the door.

But the more I see it and think about it, I think it's gross weight- the door and everything else all attached on the hinge.

I dunno of anyone adding anything to side doors, but ... you do have tube doors and such that you can bolt on there, and those could have stuff, so I guess it makes sense to disclose the weight limit. And that also leads me to believe it's total weight at the hinge, not just "weight strapped onto the door"

The SAS OEM tire is infamously 88 lbs. Apart from the Raptor 37 (which has an upgraded tailgate anyway), that's the heaviest factory tire I believe.

I'm not sure what the tailgate itself weighs, but I have had it off a few times and it's almost entirely aluminum and not very heavy at all.
Yeah, it makes sense that those are total weight numbers.

Occasionally I’ve seen people with mobility issues put some of their body weight onto an open door when getting in or out and it made me wonder at the time what margin of supplemental weight OEMs design for.
