Looking for suggestions for new 35s. I do some serious off-roading, but also need a reasonably quiet tire for every day driving. TIA

Tires can be a very personal thing... Quiet to one is loud to another, etc. I do tires at my hobby shop (medium volume Jeep shop) and have 2 mud terrain tires that I like. The Falken Wildpeak MT is my go-to tire for people that are really sensitive to vibrations or radial tire pulls, etc. They are pretty quiet, balance well and never pull... The other is the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss MT. Good all around MT.

If you think you could get away with an All Terrain, the Falken AT3W is my favorite all around tire. it does everything well and absolutely can be used in aggressive offroad. They have a LR-C in 315/70R17 that is excellent for use on a Bronco.

Tires are very personal. I am going with the KO2s by BF Goodrich. They have a long life, good off road and reasonably quiet. They are standard on the F150 Raptor. I have used them on Jeeps, and they were standard on the H2 Hummer. Not the best in mud, which is why BF makes the KM3s.

Interesting.. I had looked at the Falkens but reviews seem to indicate they are only good for mild off-roading.

I have used the Toyo AT3 and the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss. Both were excellent in rocks and also very quiet on the road. I don't think you can go wrong with either of these. I hope this helps!

Serious off-roading and daily driving should really be 2 sets of tires because anything equipped for 'serious' off-road is going to be aggravating on a DD. That being said, Toyo RT Trail.

I had a set of wheels I bought which I got excited for and got new rubber to go with.

Wheels ended up being a total loss (total fiasco) so I was essentially stuck with these Toyo RT Trails replacing my stock rubber with only 10k miles.

They are so so much better, that if I knew what I know now, I'd have replaced them much sooner. The difference is immediately notable in ride quality, even my wife commented on it and shed be hard pressed to notice a bomb going off in the car.

Something to pay attention to/consider is the load range. These are generally C, D and E. The higher the letter, the more air the tire can "load" and helps describe the weight rating of the tire. If you're hauling or overlanding, you'll want D or E due to the weight and need for more air.

If you're recreationally off roading and mostly on highways and paved roads, C is probably best. In my experience E is stiffer than C, and can cause stiffer ride conditions if/when you don't have the weight they can handle. For me, that means peeling out everywhere and poor ice characteristics.

The Falken Wildpeak MT and ATW3s have become very popular lately. I've had KO2's but they're E range and I've not been happy with them, but they're not right for my pickup truck; I think C's would've been fine on road (off road they're good in caliche rock and dirt, definitely grippy and clear ok). Had a guy at Merus couple week's back with 37" Nitto Trail Grappler's say they were better than Mickey Baja Boss's because they're easier to balance. He's a pretty serious off roader.

Only thing about this ~$300-400 per tire purchases is that if you're not happy, you got 'em for 20k-50k miles, unless you can sell them to someone else. Good luck!

Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T is a "hybrid " tire with low noise, 3mp/snowflake rating as well as aggressive tread for off-roading. It's the new gold standard for A/T tires. With a 50k mile tread wear warranty.

I have convinced myself that I need MT's on my crawler... Not sure I can continue to back that up to myself. ;) The Rugged Terrains are certainly more civilized...

I went from KO2's to the Falken AT3W on my personal truck and it's a noticeable step up for me. I tend to run C load or D load on everything, my Falkens are LR-C. The KO2 was a good tire, but it was smaller than the same size Falken and the Falken tracks better and doesn't follow road imperfections as much.

On my JKU, I think I might go to an RT this time. The "rugged terrain" classification is a newer class of tire and there aren't a ton of options, but it seems like there are some good ones. But I tend to not recommend something without experience with it. Maybe the Falken RT01 since Falken has been so reliable and consistent for us, but I also like the Cooper Rugged Trek.

The Nitto Ridge Grappler is great off road tire and decent in the dry, but I found it horrible in the rain. I put them on my daughters 2dr and in the first summer monsoon, I couldn't believe how sketchy they were.

I tend to run trails classified as extreme and have had good luck with my tires... I run Patagonia's, but tend to avoid recommending them, because there are plenty of people that have had bad experiences with them. Mine have worn remarkably well and been very durable.

This is an obstacle called Jack Ass on a trail called Jack Handle. Just a little fun...

I have the BFG 315/70/17 Raptor tires on order to replace my stock badlands. I mostly went with these because I think my stock tires perform pretty well.

I wanted to go Toyo but the load range C 35x12.5 are being discontinued and they are technically a lower load than the factory tires. I also looked at the Falkens but for some reason I cared about their offroad prowess even tho Ill probably never do anything but a light trail.

I can't put a complaint on the KO2's really. It was a good tire for me. While I lean towards the AT3W, I would run the KO2's again. Those are probably the top 2 AT's available right now. Then the Toyo AT3 and Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT are just behind them. All are 3PMSF tires and that's key to all around performance.

The Kenda's are quiet for how aggressive they are, but they are louder than stock ones.
They also have a multiply sidewall. these are technically called Kenda Klever M/T 2 and are a new model for Kenda. These are 37's but they make 35's too.

Part# 629009 red raised letter 35x12.5xR17 E rated 10/ply
Part# 629001 Black letter 35x12.5xR17

Mine are D rated 8 ply, love them.
Mud and Snow rated, speed rated to 106 mph

Kenda's are hard to come by here in AZ, where did you get them? I am a big fan of the Kenda Klever RT KR601, but fear the level of support I might get if I needed warranty, etc. The shop reached out to Kenda and they referred us to a distributor in California that had no interest in shipping tires to AZ. They list Desert Rat in Tempe and when I went in there, they said they didn't know they could get them...

They have some cool sizes too, like the 35x10.5R17 in LR-D for those that like pizza cutters. Although their 35x12.5R17 are all LR-E and that's not my favorite.

We have a few contacts at Desert Rat, and Kenda. I'll PM you some email addresses for Desert Rat.
