I’ve been following this forum since preorder days back in 2020, and appreciate all of the help over the years. I ended up picking up my 2022 Wildtrak in September of 22. To be clear, I love the vehicle, it’s a blast to drive and has a definite cool factor. My experience with the hardtop shell however, has been frustrating to say the least.

I’ve had a recurring issue with stress cracks and delamination at the corner of the rear side panel glass. I had the factory (top #1) rear portion replaced approximately one year in, under warranty. It lasted about 1.5 years before developing the same cracks. I was able to get it replaced again in April of 2025 under 36k warranty (top #2).

Less than 5 months later, probably the worst cracks so far in the same areas developed ( on top #3). To the point that I’m confident I could snap off half-dollar sized pieces of the outer shell with a fingernail if I applied any pressure.

Things were different this time. The dealership (Mall of Georgia Ford) suddenly “had issues” getting the paperwork approved for coverage from Ford’s warranty dept due to a very poorly described/explained scenario regarding timing of paperwork submission on the dealership’s end.

I was instructed to contact Ford customer service directly. I have been going back and forth between Ford and the dealership via phone, text l, and email for the past 3 months. I finally had confirmation that Ford central would cover the cost ($5K) of replacement, if I would be able to pay a $100 service fee/deductible which I was fine with.

THEN, at the eleventh hour, I was informed today by Ford central that there was an unexpected increase in the parts cost which ultimately means I will need to cover approx $2800 out of pocket as Ford can only approve for $5k ( total of $7800 for rear shell alone!?). Dealership says they can’t lower the cost, as ford sets the price.

I’m running out of patience, options, contacts. If anyone has had a similar experience and had some type of resolution I would appreciate any pointers. Thanks

Sorry to hear this.
That rear shell is not $7800. That’s some bullshit made up cost trying to screw with you.
A custom made aluminum Armadillo is less $.
I hope someone here has a way to help.

Been down this road. 5 times to be exact on my 2022 Outer Banks. Ford ended up doing a RAV. Not sure what GA rules are for buy back. I ended up getting a 2024 Badlands and started doing the same crap. Traded it in with 800 miles on it! I know there are a ton of people that has not had any issues with these tops. I for certian did and I am happy for the ones who have not had any issues. I truly enjoyed them while I had them. Ford has gotten greedy IMO and I hear issues all the time. Might want to try another dealership? Also try and get service director to reach out to there Ford rep as well. It is a PITA but it may work. Keep us updated and good luck!!

Since you are out of warranty, you would be better off buying one from a private seller for a lot less.

As a reminder for others contemplating getting the MIC replaced under warranty, the replacement can always be worse. Some have replaced a top with minor cosmetic cracks for one that fails even worse. Doesn't make it right.

I just don't understand how we are just about to hit 2026 and this issue from 2021 is still a thing.

Having a supplier (Webasto in the house) who continues to provide an inferior product should result in that supplier either having to get their act together regarding lack of quality control or just stop using them. That is problem #1 that Ford should have rectified by now.

Problem #2 is the inconsistent application of the warranty on these hardtops. That is unacceptable and is just a form of gaslighting of the customers.

2022 build, 0 issues.

If I did, I'd buy used or an armadillo.

This is a known issue. Ford didn't fix it, and won't until people stop buying Broncos because of it. They have 0 incentive to to fix their cardboard and plastic top, which costs them peanuts to make, while billing large for them.

If anyone is still surprised, then that's on you at this point, it's been 4 years.

Better Call Saul!

I filed a BBB Auto Line claim as a Christmas present to myself.

Ford replaced the entire top twice and refused to replace even the rear clamshell after it cracked near the window (for the third time) near the end of the 3/36. BBB verified my claim and I'm waiting for Ford's response -- to my 90-page submission, laugh out fuckin' loud.

PS - read my sig.

I have a 22 Badsquatch that came w/ a soft top. Ford offered me a hardtop in June of 2024. Wasn’t cheap. Thinking/hoping all the issues had been resolved, I bought one. Mine started cracking a bit under the rear windows after 14 months. I’ve sort of waterproofed the cracks (with clear packing tape - don’t laugh, it’s staying in place) and am watching things. I believe top is guaranteed for two years. So I have until next June. But I’ve decided if it cracks beyond what I can personally repair w/ fiberglass. I’m going to cut my losses and move on to TURN. 18 months since I bought the MIC, one now has options, ie TURN and Armadillo.

FWIW, I’ve gotten the point where I think the concept of the MIC top is good, but extraordinarily hard to build consistently to spec. Thus the continuing problems. Sometimes this truck reminds me of what is said about boats and the two happiest days. I still love my truck, but it will likely be my last Ford.

Your MIC hard top cracks are "visible on multiple like vehicles. The fact that this concern is visible on multiple
vehicles indicates that this is a normal characteristic. Therefore, this would be considered not warrantable,
and replacement is not recommended." - Ford, 12/20/2025.

Wow that is a new approach for sure. I can't believe Ford actually put that in writing.

'Well sir we've shit the bed, so many beds that it is now our belief that most people have shit in their bed and that they like it so we're just going to keep on keeping on with our new shitty beds approach."

^ This right here. ^ We need to stop buying MIC topped Broncos or flat out tell the dealer we’re offering $5000+ less than we otherwise would because we know we’ll have to spend that money on an aftermarket hard top down the line. I’ve mentioned my concern to salesman at multiple dealers. Not surprisingly they’ve all claimed ignorance of there being any MIC top issues.

Why anyone would order a new Bronco with the MIC is beyond me. For us early reservation holders, we had no choice.

I was an early reservation holder and waited until the last moment to convert to an order in November '22. I was holding out for the black/painted tops but they never came. I also thought the MIC problems were "fixed" after Ford recalled and replaced all the MIC 1.0 tops. Turns out, I was a dumb shit to rely on Ford to do anything right. But Ford ain't gonna fool me twice.
