Hey I need some help. I have a 2021 with the Hoss 3.0 rack. I'm getting a steering assist fault when trying to turn at low speeds and it's locking up the steering. We're at Trail Hero and fought the steering on every obstacle. It happens constantly where the fault lights up, steering locks up and sometimes works immediately and sometimes I have to back up to get steering again. It's the same with lockers on or off and also happens on asphalt when backing out of driveway. Any ideas?

2021 w/ Hoss 3.0 rack? Who did the swap for you? Sounds like a programming issue.

Tyler at BroncBuster. It was done a while ago and the fault just started 3 weeks ago. Do you think it needs to be reflashed?

Possibly...could also be a mechanical issue with the rack. If you've been wheeling it hard and it is just starting to bind up my guess would be mechanical issue.

Well that sucks. It's not very old and those racks are expensive lol

Yeah... I was thinking it could also potentially be a power steering issue. But since this just started and it's intermittent I'm leaning towards mechanical issue as well. (But for all I know Ford could have pushed a software update.)

Either way, you'll probably have to talk to the BroncBuster folks about it. Since you have an aftermarket rack upgrade I doubt a dealer would be willing to look at it.

Yup, sucks man. Hopefully just programing issue. I'd reach out to Tyler for input.

I am going to go out on a limb here, but I doubt it will be a software issue, especially if you are trying to push 40" tires.

I just disconnected the battery for 10 minutes and tried it in the parking lot and didn't get a fault so I think we'll go try an easier trail to see if it works. Fingers 🤞

Yeah the 40s are tough but Tyler is running 43s with no issues.

I did. He suggested disconnecting the battery. I did that and tried it in the parking lot and it worked. We'll try it on a trail

Resetting the brain is always the easiest option and often works when faults are electrical (and yet not mechanical or issues that a software flash would necessarily fix). Definitely a good place to start.

Has anyone had anymore issues similar to this? I have a stock Sasquatch and haven’t taken it on any hard trails, but I’m having the same issues.

I just had this issue last week in my 22’ Wildtrak with 3.0 steering rack (flashed with pro cal)
I was in a tough spot that turned out to be too narrow for the bronco and was going forward and backwards trying to create room to complete the obstacle. the drivers side front tire was pushing hard against dirt and rock when the steering assist fault came on. I shut the bronco off and back on a couple of times after the pressure was off of the steering and it seems to not be damaged. is this a safety feature? drove the bronco home 65 miles without issue. (I initially thought I broke a tie rod, but even alignment is good)
thank you

Any issues since? Had this alert come up during a tight turn on a trial as well. Everything looks and sounds good. tie rods good. haven't received the alert since it popped up so i'm wondering if it was just a safety feature alert?
