Flat towed 2024 Wildtrak a month ago approx 3400 mile round trip behind motorhome. Drive avg 400-500 miles before over night stays. Have a live battery wire and have a Delta Force assisted braking system. No problems that trip. Currently on trip from Texas to Maryland. Same avg dailey drive before overnight stay. Haven’t touched anything during the overnight stays, just do a check when leave to make sure all wheels are turning and confirm flat tow enabled. Three days traveling into this trip and all appeared well, at the end of the 3rd day, pulling off the interstate, made a right turn at light and looked in rear view mirror as always to make sure wheels are turning etc., that’s when I notice my rear wheels were not turning. Had to get off the Hwy as much as I could with little to no shoulder. Went back to see what was going on and my electronic brake light was on. It seemed like we tried everything to get it to disengage but it wouldn’t. I disconnected my brake assist completely and again still tried to disengage, still nothing. Dangerous situation and still on Hwy and dark with lots of traffic also getting off. I saw a safer place about 25-30 yds up the road and decided to pull it there to get out of harms way, and then regroup and try disengaging. It took about another 10-15 minutes starting, shutting off, opening doors and closing, whatever we could think of. Finally we got it to disengage. My fear was that the trans had locked up and was toast and was another victim of flat tow. We are very thorough when we enable the flat tow and follow instruction to the letter. By now I have completely unhooked from the motorhome, bronco running and brake light has gone off. I put it into all gears and appeared to work with brakes pushed. I drove the bronco about 30 yards and all seemed to be good and working. We were 3/10 mile from RV park, so we drove it there and figured would call Ford the next morning. Dealership about 10 minutes away. Rear tires have a flat spot and are ruined. Thankfully must of just happened when getting off ramp. Could have been much worse. Next morning I got in, it all seemed to be fine except when putting into flat tow the brake light would stay on and say need to check brake system. It was early and wanted to get to dealership before a line, so I drove it down there after a couple brake tests and all. That dealership wasn’t savvy on broncos and said Ford doesn’t recommend flat towing these or any of their vehicles. I replied then why does it tell you how to flat tow behind your recreational vehicle in the manual. I asked where the next dealership was and was about 45 minutes up the road. I drove back to RV camp, called roadside service and they came and drove it on the tow truck. We had to go on and leave the bronco with them we still were 6 hours from our destination. 4 days later dealership calls and says they can’t recreate the problem, therefore no warranty. Tires at $600 plus for 2. And no explanation of how the emergency brake was engaged. What if we had been driving and they just locked up! On the interstate!? Will pick back up on the way home, will have a short 45 min drive to RV park to test, but real test will be the next 2 days of towing. I asked dealership what if locks up again on way home they only could shrug their shoulders with idk answer. My answer is if it does, I will file whatever complaints I need to, apparently won’t do any good. But I will trade this off and get a jeep. Real shame because we just loved this thing.
