Pro Tip - Feeding Wires Through Waterproof Grommets

That tool requires that both ends of the wire be free of connectors... whichbis often not the casenthse days. You can of course cut the wire to feed though then splice, but splicing some of the finer electronics wires and or multi-strand wires is a PITA. The above is particularly true for feeding camera cables into the cabin...because Ford decided that unless you buy a Lux Badlands you absolutely don't need a trail cam.

It’s pretty easy to splice connectors back on
But yes, this tool isn’t designed to work for every scenario.

I use sharpened leather lacing needles for this. They come in a bunch of different sizes, screw on very securely, and can be used in tight spaces easily.

Guess I'm the odd one out. I don't have specialty tools. But I still get it done.
Bolt smaller than the wire diameter and get it red.
(Caution, may make a mess, think of anti-seize. lol)

Yeah the actual wire grommet has an inner and outer seal to poke through. It's not just a simple plug.

Oh yeah, thanks, that looks like a major hassle. Ford should have provided something like the plug on the automatic trans for the MT.

Honestly the closer I get to needing to run a connection direct to the battery the more I lean to just doing a dedicated (new) hole in the FW similar to what Area51BS posted upthread. I really have no desire to futz around with the clutch boot and drilling/sealing FW access is, pardon the pun, pretty much cut and dried methodology at this point. It's nice Ford provides the A/T crowd a more accessible option but all things considered I'd rather they just had a standalone plugged FW port for everyone to use. My $0.02.

Glad I came across this. This helped me out today. Thanks for the tip.

Pro tip on getting wires through the grommet on the firewall (or others around our rigs). A small slit with a new, very sharp and narrow Xacto blade, then snap ring pliers to spread the slit and get clearance for the wire. I've done this many times and this was the best method yet, by far. Kudos to my son who discovered this. He didn't even know what snap ring pliers are but saw them and knew they would help.
