During my commute to work, low tire pressure popped up and found this nasty thing. Instinct told me it’s the side wall, not worth it to repair (and have it be reliable). Wants more opinion so I don’t make a rash decision.
Context, 90% hwy/city driven, off-road every couple months or so.
What do you think, worth patching or na.
also, been doing 5 wheel rotations and would like to keep doing so. I assume it would be hard to find a used tire within similar tread depth, preferably same as the factory set. Anyone had any success and has recommendations?
Exactly 100miles shy of 30k, some part of me wants to splurge and use it as an excuse for a new set but feel like it’s also a rash decision haha.

Dam...bad spot. Could probably plug it and get by for a spare otherwise time to splurge IMO.

Quite literally the worst spot man.
Part of me wants to plug it and use it as hwy and switch it out with spare when off-roading but I don’t want my “emergency backup” to be unreliable yknow

You're at 29,900 miles on stock GY's? Fix it, rotate it to the spare and use it as an emergency only spare until you get new tires.
Yea I feel it’s a little early to switch to new set, looked up and see how long these last usually and answer ranges between 50k-125

You only need the spare for a short period if you're off roading. (You can also keep a can of foam if you're really cautious.) At that point you would need new tires, but until you use the spare or otherwise wear them out, it won't hurt anything. The GY's are cheap tires, so I wouldn't cry too much over it personally.

Mine lasted 24k. lol  My understanding was more like 30k, but you have some nice tread left it looks like. Highway wear is decent looks like.

Whatttt. That’s crazy
Five flats in 2 1/2 years, finally two tires that couldn't be repaired. I rolled for about four months with a repaired spare like this then used it for about three weeks waiting for my Maxxis Razr MTs to come in.

Wow, I’m on
Another option if you want to use it as a spare or just off-road, get a tire repair kit from GlueTread.

https://www.gluetread.com/products/full-size-kit

I have a kit, but have not had to use it yet.
thanks for the rec.
its a delicate situation cuz it’s not entirely sidewall and not entirely tread. Hard to find proper methods to plug it.
Will likely keep as spare to ride out the rest of the tire

Champ tires sells used....

It’s a different tire. It’s a Territory RT. Probably about the same new but I’d guess much less likely to be found used yet.

Found someone in the Bay Area that is selling a single takeoff but hard to find a shop that will shave the tread to match the depth
