Ford does such a great job giving vague descriptions of the updates… So helpful
Just curious - not a dig: has Toyota been any better so far, or not enough time to tell yet?

Turns out that when you turn on telemetry they collect information such as speed, acceleration, sharp braking, which then they share with a company (forget its name) that creates a risk score for you, which in turn is sold to insurance companies. There is vaguely worded section in the T&Cs that alludes to this possibility but not in way that makes it clear what they do

Thank you for sharing this. I'm going to be rechecking my data sharing settings first chance I get

Any better in what sense? Software updates? If so, it’s too early to tell - it’s only been a few weeks since owning it.

If you mean in-general? They’re two very different vehicles. I’m super happy with the way this truck drives, handles, power, and even the features (which typically Toyota lags behind in). However the Bronco was a very different vehicle so I can’t compare apples to apples.

At least my new moar door has more cup holders than seats 🤣

They gave pretty specific updates for Entune systems like the one on my 17 Tacoma. The newer infotainment systems with modems might be handled differently, but the trouble I had with mine was that every almost release note was about features being removed. OpenTable, Yelp, Facebook, and then...the entire connected app platform

https://www.reddit.com/r/Toyota/s/79mhy8Vakz

Then of course there was the infamous time Toyota paywalled remote start, which involved them intentionally restricting a feature through their app which otherwise does not require an internet connection of any kind.

I was speaking more specifically to software and updates, which Ford is traditionally pretty poor at. But overall info is good too! Thanks for sharing.

No, just turned them off completely in FordPass. Not just telematics but everything. I may or may not turn them on once a year when I am out of town and the vehicle is parked in my driveway.
Thank you

I installed a layer of tinfoil between the sunscreen and soft top. In case my tinfoil hat has any malfunctions.
How is "a layer of tinfoil" going to help? Is this a joke? One needs multiple layers of auxiliary roof tinfoil in case the hat falls off during those frequent and jerky looks over the shoulders. 😜

I carry a real compass in the bronco just in case 🧭
I don't even normally have it on that screen, but the fact that it just sits there frozen is annoying on a brand new vehicle. And of course, the direction indicator on the driver display works just fine.
