So…. I want to outfit my daughters Bronco with the appropriate lighting to navigate I-70 snow storms out in Colorado. She lives in Boulder and heads up to ski, but gets caught in a lot of snowstorms. It’s a heritage so I’m trying to stay with an old school look. I’ve heard that Amber is better than white light in pounding powder. My thought is this:
-Light bar between bumper and grill.
- replace single driving light with dual lights
My question is should I make the light bar Amber, and driving light amber for driving light and white for illuminating far ahead? I would like to keep the driving lights round rather than square for the old school look.
Any advice from experienced snow country people appreciated👍

From experience powerful white light in snow (and dust, fog and heavy rain) is just going to reflect wheras amber cuts through it pretty well! I'd definitley go amber with at least a few

If it were me, and it's the Heritage in your profile pic:

I would get a fog light kit for the capable bumper - they exist. They replace the fog light in the pocket with 2 much better fog lamps. Get a nice Diode Dynamics or Baja Designs or something in there - they can be brighter than your high beams, so don't be fooled by the smaller size

That keeps the look pretty stock. You can either wire them to the factory fog lamp switch (both or just a single set), use upfitter switches, etc. Get different colors, different patterns, etc. I'd get one set just for snow (for DD, yellow SAE fog), and get a white set for "regular" driving for deer/etc

Here is an example - I'm not necessarily endorsing this vendor, but they are very active on this site

I am in the snow a lot as I head up to tahoe and have been in snow storms. Without a doubt go with amber lens, white will just reflect. I have amber fogs in the bumper now and i put amber lens covers on my baja design lp4s (not pictured here as i hadn't installed the lights yet)

I live in AK, lights that are mounted as low as possible and preferably amber are most useful. Thick flake wet snow will reflect no matter what. Light isn't really a problem during snowfall events, the albedo of the snow is high, reflecting a lot of light.

Amber SAE fogs.

Don't overdo it with stupid light bars and all kinds of over-illumination. You don't need to blind oncoming traffic or be constantly switching them on and off while dodging brodozers blasting past you.

Low mounted street legal fogs are all you need. I have Diode Dynamics on all 3 of my vehicles, but there are plenty of good options out there for all kinds of budgets.

I think that's a 'capable' bumper....so just change out the fogs to any of @Diode Dynamics ambers. You need them LOW to the ground, it's an easy plug and play, just gotta pull the bumper and even an accountant can do it. Ask me how I know.

I live out in CO as well and almost strictly use my amber fog lights when driving I-70 in the snow. They create a much clearer view of the road versus white light which just reflects and is frankly blinding. I have the Heretic Fog Kit for the modular bumper, but they also have amber plug and play fogs for the capable bumper.

No question you want a "true" Amber not mountain dew yellow. Heretic Studios Amber is true amber and effective. I have Amber 20" light bar and Amber pods in the bumper.

The amber thing is actually how your brain interprets color and it interprets amber different than white light so you’re able to see better with the amber for fog and snow. It’s kind of interesting to look it up.

I'd recommend start with replacing your factory fogs with our Diode Dynamics Dual Fog Kit. The factory fogs are... well useless. Upgrading to our dual kit gives you some REALLY awesome lighting.

I'd do a White SAE Fog and a Yellow SAE Fog. The yellow will help with bad weather (snow/fog - cuts through better).

You can then add some accessory lighting like on the a-pillars/ditch lights. Not street legal BUT great for those back-roads where you want to add more lighting. The COMBO pattern is the most popular as it combines both a FLOOD and a DRIVING pattern into one. So you get a "wider spot" light down range and a light that illuminates 360 degree (for the most part) up close. Good to help light up things in front of you.

White is ideal, but in bad weather turn them off. You could do YELLOW for bad weather but honestly anything above your headlights will reflect back at you with bad weather.

Is there a difference between “yellow” and “amber” lighting in snow conditions? Is one better than another?
