I’m currently visiting Washington and Oregon. Camping and exploring trails. I’m really confused by the passes. US forest service has a pass $30
National forest pass has another, “America the beautiful” pass for $80.
I think that one covers the US forestry land. But I’m not sure about that.
and then there’s BLM land.
Please set me straight.

Yeah the "America the Beautiful" pass is basically the catch-all pass. Covers BLM, US Forest Service, US Fish & Wildlife, National Parks Service, Bureau of Reclamation, and US Army Corps of Engineers sites. It doesn't cover everything, but it does cover entrance fees at most locations. And as @EgreenBadSquatch mentioned, it offers discounts for many other things (like camping).

If you are just visiting sites managed by the US Forest Service—which includes National Grasslands, National Volcanic Monuments, National Scenic Areas, and (obviously) National Forests... then you only need the Northwest Forest Pass.

There’s also big discounts for seniors over 62. The annual America The Beautiful is $20, Lifetime is $80 for seniors.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this pass gets you through the gates, but it doesn’t cover any off road permits. On Asseteague the pass gets me through the gate but in order to drive the beach I need to purchase the annual permit.

FYI…. If you’re a veteran of military service the pass is free annually👍🏼
Lifetime now, got one: https://www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/veterans-and-gold-star-families-free-access.htm

The OSV area is like camping, etc. and not included with the pass.

Drive the beach permits are extra where required. We bought ours for when we drove Bodie Island and displayed them on dash as required but there was nobody at any access point prohibiting entry without a permit and nobody patrolling the beach to kick out those without the proper permit.

BTW our senior lifetime America the Beautiful pass includes all occupants in a single passenger vehicle or cardholder plus 3 if there is a per person charge

It's a cluster. There are various passes, and on top of that reservations, fees, etc. You may get into one portion of a park but not another. On top of that for example, seems like Colorado now requires a yearly off-road permit to off-road? Thank god I lived out there in the 90's and early 2000's, before a lot of this fee/regulation stuff.

All of the mountain passes in Colorado are considered on-road so we didn’t have to pay anything.

What kind of crazy world we live in... Driving off road is illegal, let me guess, being born naked will be outlawed next.

Seems the tundra takes centuries to regrow. I need some of that in my yard lol. I hate mowing.
