Anyone know of a tool that allows you to carry and position fairly heavy wheel and tire assemblies when mounting them on a vehicle? I have winter tires in the 315/70R/17 Sasquatch size mounted on an extra set of Heritage Limited rims that I need to mount on the Bronco and while I can physically lift them off my tire racks and roll them around it’s gonna be a bear to lift them off the ground enough to mount them on a wheel assembly. I usually do a squat and cradle tires between my legs/on my lap to mount them on a car.

I vaguely recall, seeing an advertisement for like a rolling cart that cradled the tire and rim at the right height to get it on the hub assembly.

Other than doing more squats, anyone know of a tool or know of a technique to more easily get extra sets of rims and tires off and o a Bronco with the Saquatch package? Thanks!

Yup they're called "wheel dolly jacks". Some of them are just designed to move wheels/tires around, while others are capable of moving the entire vehicle. The latter are also often called "car skates".

Personally, I just balance the tire on a spare floor jack. Before I happened to find that spare floor jack on the side of the road, I used a 2x4 and a brick before to create a lever to help lift it.

The guys who fix flats for our 18 wheelers use 3' long crowbars to get heavy wheels/tires back on the vehicle. They put the wheel as close to the studs as possible then use the crowbar to lift the tire up from below. The flatter angled end is perfect for getting a 1-2" lift off the ground. After some practice you can either use your foot or one arm to push crowbar down and shoulder to seat the rim on the studs.

While recovering from knee surgery my "technique" has been .... telling my sons to do things. Why else have kids, lol.

Maybe my recovery will take longer than expected, if I keep getting them to do house and car projects. ;)

Have been considering this tire dolly but doesn't help much for spare mount/dismount.

I just use one of those black bins with the yellow lids you get at costco Or other big box stores. I get the wheel tire on (lift or use a board as a ramp) the bin positioned next to the hub, adjust the height of the car with the jack and then slide the bin wheel into the hub. I’ve got epoxy floors so it slides easily (But a piece of cardboard would do the trick too).

it’s not an elegant solution, but I have spare bins, it works well and I don’t need to buy and (more importantly) store one more specialty item in the garage.

Oh the spare tire takes two bins and a couple wood scraps to get the right level. Ya do have to lift it up there though.

This old man just did a 5 tire rotation in his garage this morning. Yeah, it's a challenge to lift them and get them aligned with the studs at the same time. Spare's a bit easier (although farther to lift, obviously) since you can hang it on the camera "appendage" to align the studs.

Hmm, just realized I could use my tire ramps to help with the spare. Stacked together, that's probably 14". Definitely closer than without.

EDIT: Well, 9.5". Still better than nuthin.

The last tire rotation I used a piece of 1x4 about 3 feet long. Found the idea on You Tube. Worked for me and it was free.

A shovel is a great tire mounting tool...

My current solution is my teenage son but he will heading off to college soon🙂. I've had knee replacement surgery on both knees so I am also looking for a solution. Considered your tire dolly recommendation but that particular one has almost 20% one star rating with complaints of breaking. Here are two other options I'm looking at though more expensive. (Get what you pay for.) They appear better built. One even looks like it is for tractor trailer wheels and rated to 485 lbs.

The 315 Hakkas are kind of heavy to lift with my toes, so I have been contemplating one of these:

Seems like it might do the trick. The manufacturer claims it will work with “35”s.

I really like that! More compact than the dolly from Amazon. Couple of downsides. It's rated at 100 lbs. My Method 315 wheels and Falcon ATW4 tires weigh in right at their limit at 102 lbs. The Amazon dolly is rated at 330 lbs. Also the Jack and Jill dolly has to be ordered from Canada. Not sure about the shipping cost to lower 48.
