Watching this - the entire time I was regearing mine I just left the axle stub in because it made the carrier easy to carry around. There was no good reason to pull it - but a few half hearted attempts and I couldn’t figure out a way to get it out easy

It has a clip down in the carrier, if you could get something to catch on the groove for the clip in the stub tube on the axle extension you might be able to tap it out. But thats a good distance away.

In your case - no real reason to pull it - can get it to reseat inside the axle tube sleeve pretty easily with a socket or something to tap it in.

Ya know-I was thinking on this. I’m assuming there’s still a chunk of the driver side axle in there? Get a heavy wall chunk of tubing that fits down in there and rest it against the broken bit. Then use a stick welder to weld it from the inside. Really crank up the amps. Then you can put tabs on the side of the pipe and try to hammer it out. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I don't know if you can hammer through because the spider gears are in the way, but it would give more room to try to get a thin punch or something in there. There was another case here not too long ago where someone had the same piece stuck in their carrier, I'll have to see if I can find the thread to see how they fished it out.

Another option is to replace the carrier, although not cheap once you get all the pieces together
Spicer 10157367 is the carrier, you'd need new bearings p/n 10275976 - passenger side has to be pulled and replaced to pull the gear (almost always have to cut this one off anyway), you may get away with leaving the driver's side but if it's got miles a good idea to replace too (p/n 10184893) and maybe ring gear bolts (p/n 10008806). Rock Auto and Jegs carry most of these parts - can sometimes find them on ebay as well. You'd re-use the ELD and the same spacer rings should still work fine.

Splines are no doubt twisted locking it in. Thinking a press might be the way
