I have a love/hate relationship with head rests. Most of them really do lean too far forward for comfort, so we have often flipped ours around. Which kind of defeats the purpose. But I do like having them, and it’s actually one of the reasons I’m driving a Ford truck…

When we were shopping 1/2-ton extended-cab trucks in 2017, we were down to the Ford and the Chevy. When we had our kids (8 years old at the time) climb into the back seat of the Silverado, we noticed that the rear headrests were little tiny things that did not raise up from the seat. They were fixed in one position. Our daughter, who is a little bit taller than her twin brother, leaned back, and she could feel the glass with her head! That was an instant dealbreaker. It turns out, nobody makes aftermarket head rests, presumably because they are a federally mandated safety item or something.

So GM lost at least one sale (and probably many others) because of something as seemingly simple as a rear seat head rest. 🤪 Interestingly enough, when the current generation of GM trucks debuted, what do you know, they have tall, adjustable headrests in the rear seats!

basically, the headrest should never touch my heady unless I am rear ended. If it touches me at all in normal driving I will either.

Reverse it,
Take it to a pipe bender,
Discard it.

Maybe the shape of one’s head is the true culprit. Never thought twice about the head rests in my rig.
I do have a big head, but I'm glad to see I'm not alone with this annoying problem.

I started out by pushing head rest all the way down then from the back seat push on the head rest to make it go forward, then it will snap back until it is straight and not angled forward, I TOO HATED THIS MYSELF !!, so I messed with it and found this out, hope it helps, cause now I can lean my head back and be comfortable!!!

I have a Wildtrak with cloth seats, and I wish mine were adjustable. :-/
I am SO happy I found this thread. This was my number 1 complaint (and really my only complaint) right from the start. The only way to get it into a comfortable position is to recline the seat so far back you're practically laying. Then you're head is straight up. I would LOVE to find a solution for this.

My wife has decided she really likes the F150 headrest, and she's keeping mine! Of course, the gray cloth looks a little weird with the MGV. So my task now is to source one that better matches the MGV seats.

Possibly as simple as any year of F150 XL with gray vinyl. I'm almost certain any recent model year would be compatible. Even the '22 looks identical to mine in the pictures.

When I have some free time, I'll visit the dealer and maybe scope out some salvage yards snd see what I can find.

In the meantime, if anyone else finds a good match, post up here!

You guys do realize the headrest is adjustable right?

Pull it all the way forward and let it go, it will spring all the way back. Then adjust it from there.

I turned mine around....what a fantastic difference...I'll be bending mine in a vice at some point in the future and re installing in normal position...low on priority list.

Raising mine a notch took care of the problem.

Only with leather interior is it adjustable not with cloth or MGV.

You just need to spend more time staring down at a cellphone screen. Then you’ll have text neck and it will work just fine. The shape of the human neck has been changing. This is do to poor posture from overuse of antisocial media, oops I mean social media.
