Have 3 weeks left on the Bumper to Bumper. Carpeted headliner is starting to fall down in back by the tailgate. Taking it into the local morons to deal with it (SanTan).

Now, I would have just re-glued it with some 3M adhesive, but apparently they want the replace the entire thing?

Does this at all sound reasonable?

Let them fix it under warranty?

This sounds like it could make a mess to replace the whole thing. TBH I'd fix it myself with some adhesive.

If they repair the whole thing, ask if that repair would have a warranty past the time on your bumper to bumper.

If it’s separating due to failed factory adhesive, and not wear/bumps/rubs from loading back there, it might eventually happen in other areas. Could just be that Arizona heat cooking the glue through the roof. In that scenario, replacing the whole thing with fresh glue might make sense, if you think they are competent to do it right.

Putting your own adhesive up there is only going to work well if you get the old adhesive and dust/dirt completely cleaned off the mating surface. You’ll need to be careful what you use to do that obviously.

No expert advice here, just spitballing.

With "free" warranty repairs being worse than the problem these days, I'd fix it myself or pull it all off and bedline it.

Ford is (IMO) notorious for using garbage adhesives that cannot handle AZ heat. Door cards on Mustangs, for example, tend to fall off after 4-5 years.

I don't know about competence, I just think this dealership is full of sleazeballs. I'd never buy a car from them. But they are the only one even nominally close to home or work. They replaced my window switches without issue when the rubber failed on them.

Just annoying to have to drop off the car all day. If it was just re-glueing the detached part, I could take my laptop and work from the dealership.

I've heard mixed reviews about San Tan. I bought mine from Sanderson. Camelback was closer, but I won't do business with a former Van Tuyl dealership if I don't have to. (They're owned by Berkshire Hathaway now but Warren Buffett doesn't change the management of companies he buys)

My headliner failed in the first few months (August 2023). Apparently there was a bad batch back then. The dealer did remove the old headliner and install a new one. The headliner kits come with the adhesive on them, maybe they're a peel n stick. They did remove the hardtop to remove and clean the old liner. I believe they used IPAlcohol to remove the old adhesive.

There is a TSB on it:

Mine is a 22. Ordered in March of 2021.

If they are willing to take just the hard top I'm more than happy to drive to work topless. With the AC on of course. Let's not be crazy.

I've heard mixed reviews about San Tan.
Never buy a vehicle from San Tan. They add $4k of BS dealer "add ons" to every vehicle. They wouldn't commit in writing to no add-ons when I ordered my Bronco so I ordered from Earnhardt.

And the last time I got my oil changed at San Tan they hit me with an extra $50 to rotate the tires, even though it was supposed to be included. Had to publicly shame them via Google Review to get them to refund my money.

Never had a problem with Earnhardt, or whoever is in AJ (Rodeo?). But they are a lot further away, and nobody seems to do warranty work on weekends.

Sanderson doesn't do dealer add-ons. They will sell cars with added factory accessories. For example when I bought mine they were doing lifts using Ford parts. But they don't do desert protection, nitrogen or any of the other bs add-ons.

Didn’t read the thread, and replacing the whole thing seems a bit extreme, but if you replace the whole thing are you going with another Bronco or switching to a wrangler, 4 runner, or something else?

If I switched vehicles, at this point I would go back to a Mustang.

I was making a joke, but I do love the new mustangs. Been very tempted to downsize and get one as my sole vehicle then share my wife's grand cherokee for utility and AWD in the winter, but just can't bring myself to do it yet ;)
