Hail damage dealer discount

Dealer filed a claim on that one and everything on the lot that got damaged so it is/will be repaired but will show up on a Carfax. The discount is probably the average of what the damage extent was I am guessing from experience at my store in the past. Depending on how bad inspect the hardtop (if it's a hard top) really well.

Around here there's lots of 2024 Broncos that are $4-5K off MSRP. To me it would not make sense at $2,800 off to have a vehicle with a Carfax showing a claim.

Agree, it doesn't sound like much of a discount. The color may be important too. A basic color might not be as bad as the higher end colors on repair and durability. That original price sounds like a pretty high end model. My '24 Outer Banks sticker was 57,520 before additional options.

Is having hail damage that bad on a Carfax report?

I wouldn’t get a vehicle that had been involved in an accident due to unknown damage issues that could come up, but hail damage doesn’t impact the integrity of a vehicle.

Most hail can be fixed by PDR, they massage the dents out there isn't any filling our paint involved. I wouldn't think PDR would show up on Carfax, but could be wrong.

I've not seen PDR in action, and the aluminum hood, is that an issue?. Doesn't PDR success also depend on the size, strength and number of the hail strikes? The one time I had a hail a damaged car I lived in 1980s Midland Texas and the hail was smaller and the hood was just totally pockmarked like the surface of the Moon and needed replacing. I decided to take the insurance money and install an air conditioner in the old Datsun, and over the next year or two the hail strikes did flatten out quite a bit on their own in the West Texas Sun.

The vehicle has not been titled yet (correct?), so it's still part of Ford's inventory. I doubt carfax picks up on vehicles that have not been released to the public yet (aka titled away from the manufacturer). Example - no carfax reports on any new cars sitting on dealer lots.

In 1992 a golfball hail storm went right down car dealership row in KC. Bought my second car a week later, a 92' Nissan Sentra SE-R, white, for about 40% off MSRP and they fixed the hail damage almost immediately thereafter. It was all sheet metal, no windows broke, so no damage to the interior. Think literally looked like rolling golfball at first. Was perfect after the repair (took about two weeks) and was a perfect vehicle for the next 5 years that I had it.

My only question on your Bronco would be if any damage to the interior? Was it a soft top and the hail broke through it? If a hard top, will they be replacing it outright with a new one (assuming it was damaged) and not just patched up? As long as no real damage to the interior, and they replace the top with a new one from the factory, I'd have 0% concerns about buying it. Damage is likely focused on the hood itself and maybe the tops of the front fenders, basically the top surfaces of the car.

I agree with the other comments on the discount amount. Seems like they're offering that in general against MSRP now regardless in many markets. I know that's the case here in my area. $2k-$3k is becoming the norm. They're likely getting an insurance payout on the car, either from their own policy at the dealership or thru Ford, or both. I'd think you could pull probably around 12%-15% discount in my opinion ($50k total)...or have them include a 10 year / 100k mile premium warranty?

@zjtr10 I just had $5400 worth of hail damage repaired on my Bronco. It consisted of a hood replacement, and paintless dent repair on all the panels. Honestly, when I grow up, I'm going to learn how to do PDR and retire in 2 years.

Lots of advice to pick though on here about buy/don't buy etc. I would physically go to the dealer and personally look at the truck before you decide to buy or not.

Don't let the internet make your decision..all that matters is what you want and need from the deal. PDR, in most cases, will bring the panels back to factory--sometimes better.

For a discount this little, I would stay away from it. It'll probably cost you more to fix the dents if you were to ever do that

For this particular case he should listen to the internet. That discount is simply not enough for a vehicle with an MSRP over $50k. Broncos are not scarce on lots anymore. For that money anyone should be able to get a clean new Bronco. Maybe the hail is limited to a few dents but I would want to see photos first and if the hood needs to be replaced then you are looking at likely worse paint as I'm sure the dealer won't be going out of their way to have a good shop work on it as it will be on the cheap.

Y'all acting like you can't negotiate the price of a car on a lot. They've taken $3k off the asking and tell you it's dented. That is a starting point.

I'd recommend see if you want one, really look it over (check if the windshield was replaced and the top for damage too), and if you find one you like, ask for a bigger discount (I'd say $6k give or take, depending) and stick to your guns.
