The gas tank as we know is a large exposed area. Mine seems to take a particular beating on rocky trails, along with they trailing arm armor*. I have the JCR gas tank armor on my Wildtrak. It’s not going to hold up to another hammering-out after the next few offroad trips; the brackets will crack and need welding. Meanwhile the center buckles and touches the gas tank.

Maybe I weld it up next time and adhere some foam between it and the gas tank. Otherwise, has anyone put their gas tank armor through the paces and are satisfied with it holding up?

*as an aside the trailing arm armor is also JCR; fasteners to frame didn’t hold up so they are welded on now.

the factory gas tank skid seems pretty stout. I’ve not heard anyone tearing it up like you describe with your jcr.
Have you giving this any consideration?
if not why, what kind of damage have you seen happening to the factory model?

The factory fuel tank skid does indeed seem pretty stout according to some members that have used them for the intended purpose. Alot of them seemed to like the one piece design of it.

That is probably the route I am going to go when it comes time to add skids to mine, is to just get the factory fuel skid.

Yup. Most folks are happy with the Ford skid plate package and it’s not terribly priced. The only downside is - I think - you have to order the entire set. I don’t know that you can just order the fuel skid plate, if you already had other pieces.

I’d love to be wrong about that though. Fuel skid is probably my next purchase. I tried to order ford plates but they got lost in shipping and it took me way too long to resolve that so I am not going that route again, and have been doing Talon plates as I can snag them.

I went with IAG for what that's worth. Heavy, but thick.

Badlands and BDs are the only models that do I believe.

Other models have a plastic engine skid - nothing behind that
Well now I'm gonna have to go lay down in the snow when I get home and see if our '24 BD has the full skid plate package. I looked when we were buying it but I didn't look that CLOSE at it.

The BD's don't have the full package, though, right? A friend of mine had one and he was always talking about needing one or two (non-trans).

All two door models come with metal skids on the gas tank. I have a base model that came with the metal skid.
