Ford Performance tune - updating versions?

Does Ford update the tune over time?

Is there a version release reference anyone has been able to track down. I know when I had my Bronco flashed earlier in the year, as an example, the axle flash was optional. I believe now by default it installs the updated axle code.

How often do people check for updated tune?

This addresses the tuner itself, but leads me to believe that the tune for the vehicle does not receive updates. Otherwise, they would recommend updating or having the tune file re-flashed to the Bronco.

Because the tune is C.A.R.B. certified and the amount of money involved to re-certify any changes to the tune, I would say the tunes do not get updated, except for some extraordinary circumstance.

The tunes do get updated. I had a PCM OTA update that kept failing the other day. I’m assuming because of the programmer.
So I put it back to stock, updated the programmer itself which also downloaded a newer tune file.

There are updates. That’s why there is an “update” button when you connect your Procal to your windows laptop. I check at least every 3 months. You will need your fordperformance.com user and password plus the original unique number/letter combo that came with the tune. Last version I checked it was 2.118.
BTW, I installed the tune myself. Not sure for those who had them dealer installed. Did you bring your laptop? Did the dealer use their account to install?

They logged in using my login and a temporary password that I setup. I changed the password once I had the vehicle back.

I guess I’ll have to get Procal on my laptop and check in periodically.

I check every three months or so for updates, by plugging the tuner into my PC.

Firmware updates update the flash tool. These updates happen rather routinely. That doesn't mean the calibration has changed.

Just following up on this - if we get a tool update, how do we know if there is a tune update? DO we have to reflash each time or will the car tell us if we plug it in?

There was another thread on this recently, there was a new flash available. Likely just to add support for additional model years, but who knows, they don't exactly put out release notes.

I believe it was due to releasing the new gearing upgrades.
