I noticed a lot of the Australian guys on 4WD 24-7 are wearing Crocks. They're always in mud or water, I guess that makes sense. High-top Danner for me, add gators for snow.

A Jeep friend in front of you works best. They wanna talk smack, let them get dirty.

Water? What's that? I live in Southern California so I'm unfamiliar with that term.

I even hate to ask this but.... anyone have any footwear recommendations? I'm talking about when you're out there and come across that "puddle" you just have to cross....your poking stick says maybe a foot of water and another foot or two of mud, but you're not really sure. Is the bottom gravel, are their tracks down there, etc... But hey, you're going anyway. IF I need to get out and winch it up, I don't want my shoes sucked off my feet. Mud boots? Gaitors on running shoes? This is a thing and I would like to know what others are doing. Thanks guys.
In general outdoors I wear military boots, Danner Reckoning EGA Gore-Tex if it's going to be wet but not over boots, old school McRae jungle boots if water is going to be over the top, Danner Ft. Lewis when it's cold. I want the ankle support so when I take a tumble I don't break an ankle.

Have a pair of Muck Arctic Sports for really cold weather but I don't like driving in them or the lack of ankle support. Awesome when it's -10°F however.

I generally just wear my Salomons when I’m out and about. I don’t like risking improper footing or unprotected feet especially when I can’t see where and what I’m stepping on like I’m deep water/mud. I have some Ghey Dudes or OluKai as my rec shoes when I’m in a stable area or need to let the boots dry.

I wear an old pair of low rise KEEN hiking boots. I pack an extra pair of clothing and shoes in the trunk. anything gets sucked into the mud, the earth can have it. I'm not digging around.

I'd imagine a pair of TEVAS or similar sandals could work too. easy to clean and pretty secure. for the ppl who tromp around barefoot, I'd be worried about stepping on something sharp and getting a gnarly infection. no thanks.

I just picked up a set of Topo Athletic Trailventure 2 shoes and they performed great for me on my Rubicon trip a few weeks ago. They have a nice big toe box for the toesies to stretch, and needed 0 break in.

Normally I used my Garmont T8 NFS military boots but forgot those at home and needed to pick up footwear on the way during the road trip. The Topos are waterproof but obviously not meant for really deep stuff.
