Hello. Just getting started in tuning the Musway DSP in my Bronco. Can anyone recommend a house curve as a starting point? Using REW software. Thanks!

i made a small write up on this topic in another forum, see below for a copy/paste- DIY mobile audio should have some curves you can steal. but i think getting everything in the bounds and playing around a bit will give you a better idea of what you want.

much like with speakers, a frequency response curve does not tell you everything BUT it is the single most useful piece of information about your systems sound. there are a wide number of curves, and although attempting to get 100% adherence is not recommended, having a target to compare against will make your life much easier. I looked at a plethora of targets and created upper and lower bounds that capture almost every target. you can take these two curves (the spacing is important!) and import them to REW to check your own systems FR against them. you can then use the bounds of the curves to inform you on where adjustments for taste are typically made.

Hopefully some one has setting they will share....otherwise diymobileaudio has several that are good for baseline.

IMO unless you have plenty spare time and enjoy fiddling about with calibration just pay a referenced pro to do it for you. Some do remote.

Key difference iss they have the measurement equip and know where to cut and where to boost.

It's easy if have soft top not much reflective surface above waste line hard tops SUV open spaces are likely way more challenging.

Od say run it flatmsee what need boosting like sub and 10-150 hz range probably want to cut aggressively in the 1400-2500 range if harshness.

Thanks for the advice and house curve examples. Was able to download some samples off diymobileaudio as well.

Main problem I'm facing right now is that the dash aftermarket coaxial speakers are too bright/harsh while driving. Any suggestions as to which frequencies to cut or how to modify house curves to tame down these speakers?

Tried reducing the overall volume of the dash speakers but that didn't help much. Just reduced the annoyance a bit but still there. There's something else in the DSP setting that needs to change.

Thank you!

there is a lot of specifics. how you are measuring is the first thing i would want to check. the amount of back and forth needed to troubleshoot this is well beyond a typical forums use.

all of this said, one thing you can do is use dip filter and slide it up and down while playing music until it makes the bad sound go away. then fine tune it making it the proper amount of cut and size.

Thank you for the suggestions. Let me also ask if crossover changes should help. Currently 4" coaxial is 200hz-20,000 and midbass is 80hz-200hz. Would moving from 200 to 300 be beneficial as far as taming some of the brightness from the dash or not really? thank you.

probably not going to help. but some 4" speakers have trouble with playing down to 200Hz. you should be taking measurements with wide crossovers and no eq to see where to put your crossovers. now that i know its a 4" coax on a single channel my bet is that the midrange speaker is just being run full range. which means the mid and the tweeter are going to be contributing together at some points. that point is probably the cause of the problematic sound. somewhere around 3-7khz is probably where your problem lies.

Great thank you. Yeah it's a Helix 4" i3 coax which was recommended. I'll play with with the 3-7khz range. It's just frustrating because when parked or low speed it sounds pretty good, but once you get higher speed some songs just become unlistenable. Thanks!

Its a 3 ohm speaker so playing louder than any 4 ohm speakers try a 5-7+ DB reduction for that channel also make sure your head unit speed options is off.

Generally I also eq cut 5-7 the 1500-2500 range.

Great thanks for the additional suggestions! Yes speed comp option is currently off. Tried gain reduction on dash channels output but that just made vocals fade into background and dull if that makes any sense. Will try 5-7db cut in the 1.5-2.5khz range.

I ended up using speaker pods to aim the tweeters and mid range drivers towards my listening position in the driver's seat.

When I had these speakers mounted in the dash pointed up towards the windshield I found the reflection of certain frequencies unpleasant. I tried tuning down various frequencies but the results weren't great. I would try to find a way to aim your tweeters if you can. Some manufacturers include different tweeter mounting options like these from Morel:
