Does anyone else have trouble getting the doors to lock with the "buttons" on the handles? They only work about half the time. When it's acting up none of the doors will do it so I know it's not just a single button malfunction.
Intelligent lock/unlock seems to act up for me when its cold/wet.

it flat out won't work and will have to use the FOB to get in the vehicle or lock it.

I've come to learn it's not so much a button as it is a sensor.

So instead of trying to push it, I just wave my hand over it, and this seems to working much much better.
So I need my magic wand to lock the doors? This is the first time I have followed a Forum like this on a new ride I was buying. Lots of good stuff for sure, but all these little buggy things are disheartening.

I wouldn't say it's buggy. I'd just say it needs to be explained better. Or maybe a better UI.

It looks like a button. But to use it as a button, you end up putting your fingers behind the handle, and then it unlocks, as that's the default action for that.

So then after awhile you start to try and press it as a button with just 1 finger, and think it'll have button pressing reaction time. It doesn't. Which leaves you thinking it's not working.

Then like I said, you finally figure out it's not a button. It's a sensor. And if you put your hand in front of it, like I said in a later post, give it a "pounds" and just hold your hand there for a second or 2, it works perfectly fine.

So I wouldn't call it buggy. Just bad UX. This car is full of bad UX.

I personally like GM's method where the doors just auto lock when you walk away with the key in your pocket. When I drive my Tahoe, my key never leaves my pocket. When I drive the Bronco, it annoys me that the key is still a thing.

Tesla's design where the key is just a card that goes in your wallet is where it's at. Soon enough, the key will be our phones.

If a soft top Bronco, I would advise against using the door locks.
Not sure about where you're from, but where I am people would rather possibly get caught doing pety theft vs a charge for property damage from cutting into a soft top.

I've also had intermittent issues with the lock button so what I do is press the 7/8 and 9/0 button on the numpad and that locks everything.

This is the function I was hoping to replace with the "button" on the handle. I didn't get the keypad this time.

9yrs of being a jeep owner both living in FL & CO. I would rather them open the door and see whats inside rather than shatter a front window or cut the top. Not worried about when I’m home but when Im away from home. Replacement soft top windows are not cheap. Some thieves are not too bright so you cant fix stupid. I drive all the time without doors on the jeep, no different then as there are no doors to lock. Dont keep valuables inside the bronco or jeep, if you do use a steel security lockbox and not the center console or glovebox and you’ll be fine.

True, but partially incorrect-

EDIT: For some reason, these handles require a touch of the inside portion before touching the lock button. Sort of like an "unlock clear" thing

Not on mine. Grab handle to unlock, only touch button to lock.

Patience has been my friend. The key for me has been to learn to hesitate a half second after closing the door, and then to just rest my finger on the button until it locks. I agree with the sensor vs button question above.

I had a lot of problems early on, but since altering my methods have had no issue. I don't push hard, and I leave my finger there until it locks. Works every time.

I really like the Nissan/Toyota feature with an electronic beep that tells you locked or unlocked. Just listening for the sound of the locks engaging makes me wonder at times… Wait , was that a lock or unlock sound? And you can’t just grab the door handle to make sure it’s locked because then it will unlock! 🤬😂

I hope not our phones, or the phone will just be another option. Way too dependent on phones these days. I see people struggling at the airport all the time (I travel for work at least once a quarter) with their boarding pass not coming up on your phone. Same getting into some concerts. You lose or break for your phone while traveling and OMG!! I sure dont want it to now be the only way to start my ride. Maybe I should just buy an early 70's Bronco and trick it out. Custom Baby!!

BMW is already doing it: https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/glob...tal-key-now-available-for-android-smartphones

To each their own, but I'm all for it. Less to carry the better.

Now, as I say that, I'm also the parent that will not allow my kids to get phones until maybe, MAYBE, high school. My 11yr old is already asking for one, and I, for one, find it insane that 11yr olds have phones. Nothing good comes out of that.

Can’t find it now, but I thought I read in here to put your finger on the lock button and hold it there for a second. Don’t just tap it. I’ve been doing this today and it’s worked like a charm, every time. 👍🏼😁

Yea this is true for all of these systems. Water messes with them. They'll actually lock/unlock randomly when you are washing your car. The problem isn't exclusive to Ford either. I worked at a carwash for years, they all do it.

Noticed this at the self serve car was today. I thought I was somehow hitting the button in my pocket as I walked around the vehicle.
