Do you have to remove the tailgate to replace the passenger side taillight?
No ... just the lower corner and side plastic panels. There's a few YT videos out there that walk you thru it.

Let me start by saying this is just a fair warning to anyone who is looking to upgrade your taillights.
I bought these direct from the manufacturer and at the time had only seen positive reviews about the company and their quality. My experience has proven to be less fortunate not once but now twice. The photos below are taken about four months apart and the issue is the same. The difference however is that the failed tail lamp on the drivers side from the first photo was exchanged for a brand new one seen in photo number two. The first lamp lasted 6 months or thereabouts from time of install as I left them in the box for about a year while I sourced the time for the install and more importantly the early Windows PC that could run the Forescan to even use the lamps. They were actually good about replacing this from the perspective of the normal warranty period as my procrastination with installation had passed the warranty period. I appreciated this very much actually.
But the process to deal with the requirements of that manufacturer and the hoops they force you to jump through was quite painful and not logical or convenient to the end user. To get the replacement lamp took about a month of back and forth plus they wanted me to remove the light for a build code before they would ship the replacement. Let's just say this is far from convenient and what I found when I finally did go to replace the lamp is that the plastic tab that pushes into the holder is very brittle and broke immediately upon removal. The second lamp lasted less than 4 months. I guess I'm going back to stock at this point.

Lesson learned: it it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

yikes.

<knockonwood> i've had oracle taillights for about 2 years now with no issues. Mine was a halogen equipped bronco originally as well.

I mean... are you though? Time is money right? Is it worth it to save a bit of $$ but have to constantly swap them out?
I've only had to replace them once in 2 years. Do I wish they lasted forever? Of course, but it's cheaper than replacing the factory tails every time you break a lens.

This is the second time on here I've seen someone say halogen bulbs are rare or hard to get.
I don't understand this at all. You can walk into any dealership or parts store and buy the correct bulb for $5-10. Ford alone has thousands of them in stock across the country.
I dunno. I haven't blown one out (yet) but after seeing that they were hard to get i took a look when I was in o’reillies one day. No stock.

They also didn't have stock for the particular bulb i needed for an older car either - so maybe that particular store just has crappy inventory

I can find them online easy enough. I dunno about dealer - they aren’t my first choice for commodity parts so maybe they have boxes and boxes of them right now.

It just seems to be my luck that whatever part I need they wont have, or only have 2 when I need 3. But I admit I have a very low sample rate in backing up my specific observation about tail lights.

What is the issue exactly? Did your truck come with halogens or LED tail lights from the factory?

If you have halogen then there are known issues with the tail lights, especially driver side. BUT if you have LED they should work fine... at least if you used a quality brand.

I don't know what brand you used but they don't look like any of the quality brands we sell. But even the quality brands have issues with the OEM halogen equipped trucks.

Morimoto has released a fix for their lights, but those don't look like Morimoto. And the new Form Tails claim they work with halogen equipped trucks. But those are the only two quality brands we sell that make tail lights.

All of the other tail lights out there that are very inexpensive are... well inexpensive for a reason.

And to chime in on what someone else said about why a certain company is still in business and they don't know HOW they are... Well you can thank the Jeep market for that :) Jeepers LOVE cheap stuff, even if it fails constantly. It's cheap!
These are Oracle taillights on a Badlands with Lux package so originally LED. And to be clear the second light only lasted about 3 months. I installed that assembly in the middle of November. The issue is seen in the photos. The middle segment of lights stops working and the top and bottom still work. I had believed when purchasing LED lights I could hope to have them for the life of the vehicle. At least that's my experience up until now with OEM vehicles, maybe not for life but for as long as I've owned them. But to have the exact same issue twice in less than a year. Well that's just not a good product.
Oracle has told me they'd offer me 15% off a new set! What do you think everyone? Should I take that deal?

If you already had LEDs from the factory, why would you ever go out and get cheap aftermarket garbage?

Is the extra one inch of clearance going to make that much of a difference?
yes. It does. And has.
The edge of the stock lens sticking out there is begging for a tree or rock to snag it.
