Thanks everyone. I called the service manager and let him know his guy is an idiot.
Yep. Sounds like they just don’t want to do a five tire rotation like they should. My dealer tried the same BS with me.

I had my tires rotated a couple of days ago. My dealer’s service department also questioned whether there was a sensor in the spare tire. It sounded like it was their first time doing a five tire rotation, which is a bit puzzling considering they’re in a large city with plenty of Broncos.

Also, on the service invoice, it says they swapped places for the drive rear tire and the spare. I’m not an expert on tire rotations, but that doesn’t seem right. If they keep doing that, they’re not really moving those two tires through all four (or five) locations? Need to ask them for a diagram of what they did (assuming they remember).

Spare has the sensor, but needs to be activated when put in rotation.
Nope. Nothing to activate. Just drive and the Bronco is smart enough to figure out which tire is where.

Can confirm it does have a tpms in the spare. It automatically sets the new tires location after driving for a few minutes. Have tested it with deflating a tire to 20psi and it does detect it's new location. The techs at your location either just don't know or are too lazy to do it. Not to brag but I weigh 135lbs soaking wet and can do it with 33" mud tires with only 400mg of ibuprofen.

*just had to swap in my spare and found this while double checking that my dumb-lands would, in fact, eventually figure out which tires were spinning.

The TPMS system figures out what tires are where pretty quickly. The caveat here is that the tires need to be aired up past the low tire warning. Drove for 25+ miles aired down and a flat spare that was still showing up on the front left. Once I aired the 4 back up that would still hold air, it only took a few miles for it to figure out the spare and left front had been swapped.

I've never been a fan of rotating tires. The new ones go on the front, the best two used ones on the back and use the worst one is the spare. Only have to buy tires two at a time that way and nobody is jonesing to steel the spare. Not a fan of TPMS sensors either. I pull them out when I get new tires.
