Just dropped my 2023 Badlands off for service (dealership), having them change oil and rotate tires also. Asked for 5 tire rotation and told no because the spare does not contain TPMS.

Is this true and, if so, what's involved with taking the sensor from one of the tires and installing on the spare?
TY.

Edit: Thanks to everyone for the replies. I informed the dealership, got the 5 tire rotation done, spare tire sensor works fine. On a related note: my passenger side roof panel was hard to remove and I was told this is not adjustable. It is. Had to inform the dealer how to do it.

Yes it does. The service advisor probably told you "durrrr the pressure don't show on the screen because there is no tpms". Drive it a few miles and it wakes up the tpms.

Idk what it is with dealerships and the gd tpms sensors in the spare.

You have a tpms in the spare.

Im triggered because my dealership and I got into a heated debate about this 2 weeks ago lol.

Not only is it ridiculous that some dealers' service departments still have people that don't know about all tires on the Bronco having TPMS sensor, but refusing a 5 tire rotate because of it makes no sense. Even if the 5th tire didn't have a sensor, that doesn't prevent the vehicle from operating, doesn't affect performance, etc... All it does is give a low tire light, which based on my experience in other people's vehicles is something that is prevalent and ignored frequently.

I think it's just laziness or incentives on behalf of the service writers. A five tire rotate takes a couple more minutes than a 4, and that could mean 1 less car getting a rotate that day hitting their metrics.

Yes, it’s in the spare tire and you no longer have to use the crazy calibration tool like on the early TPMS sensors from 2008. After a few miles of rotating it displays properly.

To keep beating the dead horse...

All 5 tires have a sensor. If you rotate them you justhave to drive a few miles and the vehicle will pick it up.

And let me add. You don’t have a spare tire, you have an extra full size tire. Calling it a “spare” is where a lot of people (service techs) get confused because they know spare tires don’t have tpms. Stand your ground, if that doesn’t work, find another ford dealer. (“Spare tire” insinuates space saver spare, the fact that it hangs off the rear should clue them in. Hell, I’ve even heard the girl working a register in the service department call it a jeep for goodness sake.)
Actually, by definition, a spare tire is any tire that is carried in a vehicle as a replacement in case one of the regular tires fails, regardless of its size or design. It doesn't have to be a compact or space-saver. So yes, a full-size tire mounted on the rear (like on many SUVs and trucks) is a spare, it’s just a full-size one.
The confusion often comes from people assuming that “spare” automatically means a compact or temporary tire with limited use — but that’s not accurate. A spare can be compact, full-size, temporary use, or even matching, it just refers to the fact that it’s a backup tire.

What is the "forced re-learning" the dealer does?... Drive it around for a few miles?

Just spent 10 minutes arguing with my dealer after he told me my ACC was not working because I relocated the trail cam.

“ adaptive cruise control requires the front camera to be perfectly calibrated”

Had to school him on the difference between the trail cam and the adaptive cruise control camera up in front of the rearview mirror. Hell, the trail cam only sees like 10 feet in front of the vehicle! By the time it detected anything and applied the brakes, I’d be in the guys backseat already.

not that it helped. They still can’t fix the problem. Something about the bronco not allowing the tech to enter calibration mode? They disabled ACC so at least I would have basic cruise control while they “look into the problem“

spend 10 minutes a day on this form for a month and you’ll know more than the counter guy at most dealerships.

Forced learning is not required. Not sure why it's still in the owner's manual
