Damage while using winch on improperly installed Rough Country High Mount

There's no way I'd pull my bumper back off unless I absolutely had to (pita), It almost seems like having something that would slide into that big front hole in the frame with flanges on it would be a great universal support. It would push out any bumper by 1/4" bit any side load would be distributed through the whole front frame horn.

I almost pulled a trigger and ordered the LOD but I couldn't find any. Now that tricky has something, I may wait to see the $ of those.

That would be a good way to strengthen the area, but without any kind of gusseting on the back side of the bumper pads, you're relying entirely on the bending strength of a flat flange coupled with the bumper pads, meaning thickness would be your only ally in strength as opposed to gusseted support. You'd also have to figure out some way to recess the flange enough to contact the bumper pads, cut the end of the frame flush with them, or use the flange as a standalone mounting surface.

The alternative would be to slide in some tubing pre-drilled to interface with the bracket that OP is making and basically sandwich the frame between them.

Well, I’ve gotten away from this thread since I’ve been waiting on my LOD brackets to come in. I started taking all the wiring off my bumper last night so I could tear into it and put the brackets on tomorrow since they finally came in.

as you can probably tell from the pictures, my mount is pulled forward and twisted a little bit. I planned to take everything off tonight to bend the plates back and mount the brackets. However, after catching up on this thread, I’m afraid that the slots on those brackets are a problem. Those should be holes and not slots. TD will be able to tell us after he gets his off again, but I would bet that the slots slid over the bolts and allowed the bracket to move. Now I’m considering welding the washers onto the bracket to try and help hold it in place. That’s probably not a heavy duty enough fix, but I’m not sure what else to do other than build my own brackets or weld the whole thing on. I’ll think on this more today and try to do something tonight.

What would make this a super model of the year is if it had the same dog ears at the bottom as is the top.

It's on the table depending how the prototype fits. I forgot to order the weldnuts so I won't be getting into it until this weekend now.

I think just my mount is tweaked this time, one corner definitely is twisted up higher than the other. I'm going to run with it a bit longer while I plan out a bumper but I'm going to beef up the RC mount a bit because it's too light duty.

Well it was a little worse than I thought. The bumper plates are off a bit on the passenger side especially but the bigger problem is the winch mount.

It’s twisted pretty bad. No fixing that.

However, I called Rough Country, they answered right away and they’re sending me a new one tomorrow. Just wanted pictures of the bent mount. Service was much better than I expected.

The bumper plates were pulled out on that side too. I bent them back as best I can but to get them all the way back I’m going to have to use the frame brackets to pull them back and hope that works.

Nice! I didn't even think to try that.

Haven't got mine off yet, waiting for the weldnuts for my brackets so I can do it all in one shot.

I was looking forward to getting myself stuck soon....I'll be installing the LoD brackets but I'm guessing that'll just be a bandaid until Tricky gets his parts ready for shipment up to Canada.
