Just got a dump of 4ft of snow in southern Ontario. Came up behind a guy at the stop light ,braked ( glare ice under the snow )and started to slide into is rear end. Within 3ft of his vehicle Collision assist kicked in and managed to stop just in time. My first experience with collision assist was the first day i drove off the lot and with in 5 minutes some old fart ran a stop light . Saved me from a crash. Feature is great and it actually works. Now if i can get rid of the “ keep hands on the wheel “ and check the rear for occupants, I’ll be happy.

I could be mistaken, but your ABS was already doing its job (from your manual braking) and it is what stopped you...in this case the Collision Assist was just a superfluous warning.

I do not mind the collision assist alarming. However the two accidents I've had and the third I barely avoided (people be crazy out there) I did not notice the alarm going off as I was to destracted by either colliding into, avoiding colliding into, or being collided into. All of which to say, lane assist is for the birds. Oh, and I can vouch for Bronco's dialing 911 once it registers an accident. I'm sitting in my 2022, dazed having impacted the steering wheel with my head, blood running down my face, and I hear, "911 emergency, do you need police, fire or ambulance?" Glad I do not have a video of me looking around trying to figure out who was talking to me. And do not get me started on fireman Lance and his field test in determining if I had a broken nose.

It is a great feature as well as lane assist. I haven’t had those other two warnings on my ‘24 Heritage-yet. 🎄

...I drive with it turned of but it always puts me into sort of a limp mode when I come semi close to wrecking.
I have not looked into it, but I assume there is a setting in the center screen where you can "turn off" CA but as you point out not really turn it off? The guys who drive dunes report that the procedure (long press of hero button) to "turn off" ESC result in it being only dialed back, not truly disabled, and that you have to remove fuse 29 (or is it 28 - going from memory here) to truly disable it. Liability/regulation concerns triumphing over real off road needs in the case of ESC...

The CA alert is distracting in an otherwise high stress situation, but so far I have been able to keep focus on what's important the two times it has distracted me. However, I can admit if for some reason I was not looking ahead the alert (and possibly auto-braking) could end up being helpful.

I don't believe this is correct. When Collision Assist is activated the braking system automatically charges in anticipation of a panic stop. This is more than merely anti-lock.

Your probably right, though in the two cases I am certain I got the warning it did not activate the brakes - which is good because I understood the situation and was on top of it, and any auto-braking would have been another thing I had to deal with and would have made the situation worse, not better.

However in the OP's situation he stated:

"...Came up behind a guy at the stop light ,braked ( glare ice under the snow )and started to slide into is rear end. Within 3ft of his vehicle Collision assist kicked in..."

So he was already braking, though he admits it was on "glare ice". So perhaps he was not managing through his manual braking (ice can be difficult of course) and as he got close, the Collision Assist kicked in, braked harder forcing the ABS to work and managed to stop just short?? All speculation of course, I suspect the OP is not even sure exactly what happened.

Super low traction situations such as smooth ice are very difficult, and ABS can only do so much to find what little friction is available. ABS can actually be counter productive in snow, as if there is enough of it locking up (as opposed to rapid pumping - aka ABS) builds up a mound of snow in front of your tires which causes overall friction to go up and braking distances to get shorter...but I doubt Collision Assist has the sensors/smarts to leverage this fact.

Just to clarify, Collision Assist does not activate the brakes, it merely primes the system in anticipation of a hard stop. By this I mean that it increases the system pressure (in fractions of a second) prior to application of the pedal and thereby reduces the response time of system activation.
Also, ABS is not the ultimate solution to lack of traction and I believe that even today (40 some years after its consumer introduction) many people lack an accurate understanding of how ABS activates and what it is intended to do. In the simplest terms, it prevents wheel lock and allows the wheels to continue rotating so that they at least have some capacity to steer the vehicle. There are many situations where terrain is so complex (such as in heavy snow or ice) that having ABS is not enough to overcome all the elements that conspire to prevent vehicle control. I for one sometimes miss the direct control offered by pre-ABS braking systems. Unfortunately, modern ABS systems cannot function properly if the driver intentionally pumps the brakes.

I don’t have the 360 package, nor a front camera on the grill but I just checked my owners manual and there is a camera behind the rear view mirror, and it has that radar device behind the grill.

All Broncos have pre-collision braking standard, which is the windshield camera.
The radar module in the middle of the front bumper is only present if you have adaptive cruise.
